Manual transmission transfer case can you use a automatic trans transfer

I'm new to the land rover community, just got a 1995 disco with a manual trans, the guy that I got it from said the transfer case pop out of high when driving and would not go back in. I was wondering if theirs any know problems with a simple fix, and if not could u use a transfer case off of a automatic disco or are they different
