Newbie buying 1965 series II - questions

Hi,
I live in Costa Rica and although I have a background in auto mechanics Land Rover is a totally new vehicle for me. I have a chance to buy a 1965 series II that looks (From pictures) to be in excellent condition. I will be looking at it in person in a few days. My questions for the experts:

Is there anything in particular that I should be looking for with this year/model? Anything that is of particular concern?

Also, it will be used on pretty rough roads in the mountains. Steep, rocky, etc. Is this vehicle up for the task? (assuming it is in good running condition)

they are a pain to drive they are loud stinky and rough but I would not have it any other way
