hello,
my name is Costin, I live in Bucharest - Romania and am architect;
I just bought a 1967 2,25 diesel Series 2 LR with the goal of a full restoration (and a bit of modification in order to make it more drivable - such as disk brakes and a full syncro gearbox) - my question is about the gearbox: what is the best option (swap) ?
a Series 3 + overdrive or high gearing transfer case, or the 5 speed defender gearbox
(and repositioning the engine to make space for the adapter;
does the Series 3 mate the S2 engine? has anyone did this transformation?
thanks,
costin

Costin,
go with the series 3 box with O.D.
The high gearing transfer case is only suitable for larger engine upgrades and would leave your 2 1/4 way over geared.
The series 2 bellhousing will mate the the series 3 box.
Good luck
