06 lr3 HSE rotating rubbing sound coming from front end. Only during acceleration. Does not make it when coasting. Mechanic thinks that it is the front differential, but I would hate to spend that much money and that not be it.

The "only during acceleration" is what points at the diff. Gotta put some chassis ears on it and get a better determination. You might also try changing the diff fluid. If it fixes the problem, good. If it doesn't, you prolly needed new diff oil anyway so no biggie.
