You need to find a different dealer. The steering column diagnosis clinches it.
Totally agree. JLR of North Houston just rambled off a laundry list of things they found during their inspection and an approximate repair cost of $16,500 like it was nothing. I love the LR4, but the brand is really failling.
Will drop it off to an independent LR master mechanic for a proper diagnostic. He said that in all his years of experience, he's only had to rebuild one LR4 transmission. Could be a good sign or I could just be unlucky and be his second failure.
Question: Should I have the reflash the latest firmware? Does really help with issues like the rolling 1-2 jerk?
That issue is common with this transmission, even our old 2007 Q7 with the same HP26 had the issue. If you just about come to a stop then get on the gas you catch the transmission in the muddle of a second gear to first gear downshift. Then it appears confused and pauses. Just learn to come to a complete stop and you avoid the issue.
Hmmm.... I would get a 2nd opinion. Let me know if you find an independent LR master mechanic in H-town. BTW, JLR on SW Freeway took care of it for about $500 7 months ago for me.
Our Q5 with the 8 speed does the same thing. Usually happens when you're slowing down to go around a corner and then give it a little gas. It's fine if you take the corner more aggressively.
Hey gamh2001, what did you have done to your transmission?
The service manager told me that the factory won't let them work on the transmission. It has to be replaced as a whole unit.
I'm dropping it off to British Unlimited near the Woodlands. They've only worked on small things for me but seems like they know what they're doing and are always nice. There's a clean D90 they've been working on.
