okay, this one isn't trivial.

truck has factory vacuum diff lock.

out driving this afternoon, very suddenly lost all drive. as in:
i reversed out of a carpark, and went to select 1st, let the clutch out, and nothing happened. no drive in ANY gear (including reverse) and all low range.

HOWEVER
i locked the differential, and found drive again. so i limped her home with a locked centre diff and have parked it on the driveway..

why does it only go with a locked diff? can i fix this easily/myself?
or is it really buggered?

need truck back asap. thanks again in advance

over n out,

incorrect diagnosis

its not the gearbox, i snapped a front axle. being full time 4WD, and with torque takes the path of least resistance, everything was going to the broken axle. Locking the diff garuantees the rear end half the torque, so thats how i got home.

turns out a passer by claiming to be a mechanic may not know as much as first thought.

Spoke to a few guru's in the area and have since learnt that belting the living daylights out of your rover is not punishment...merely a form of physio therapy :) back to the workshop

over n out.
