There's a description in your manual; it can be configured to do a few different things. The only one that interested me was lowering the suspension to access height; unfortunately the hazard lights have to be activated for the remote to control the suspension height, which kinda defeated the purpose for me...

Yep, that button can do almost anything you want it to. It can lower your truck to access height, turn your headlights on, activate the panic feature of your alarm, pop your rear hatch there may be more but these seems to be the most popular.

I have mine set to turn on the heated seats when the temp is below 40 degrees. (JK)
Unfortunately it's one of those cool sounding features that doesn't get used all that much, kind of like voice commands. I actually have the button set to release the rear hatch, but I have only used it a couple times, and one of those was by accident.

I use it to turn on the lights. Second tap turns on the reverse lights. On a reeeaaally slow night its been known to happen that I've tapped that button while parked on a busy downtown street just to watch the drivers wait for the car, and then realize there no-one in there.
Mostly though I use it to light up the garage when the opener light goes out.

I find the lights feature the most practical as well. Although as I posted before, this one doesn't turn on the backup lights like my last one. It's also handy to use to turn off the headlights if you don't want to wait for the delay timer to turn them off when you park somewhere.

sounds like you found the all around best and most fun use for the third button... haha.

Automatic Starter Land Rover Button

just another addition to this topic.

you can take the key into a good car specialist shop and also have them reconfig the Land Rover button to work as an Automatic Starter (obviously you have to buy an auto starter too) but according to my local auto guy he can do it for about $699... im still debating if i want it yet....

you know what.. im going to start a new thread with this topic... automatic starter...

I'm having trouble finding some directions on programming the Land Rover button. Popping the rear hatch would be awesome if I could program it to do that. Anyone have any links?

Thanks,
Aaron

I don't believe it's possible to program it do so. You can use the LR button to turn on the panic alarm, cycle headlights and reverse lights on and off, or to operate the suspensions remotely. On the RRS you can indeed pop upper glass or liftgate with that button as well, but if it works on the LR3 it would be an "unadvertised feature". To program it on the Sport, you hold the Land Rover button on the key fob pressed while at the same time operating either latch release on the tailgate. Try it out on your LR3, you never know...
