Has anyone have to replace their front winshield due to crack from rock chip?

We got a big rock chip in the lower part of the winshield on the driver side, and before I could go get it fixed, one of the crack lines started to run and it's running up and diaganol towards the rearview mirror, (crap)

I called LR and they wanted $750+ to replace it, anyone else had to replace one? how much did it cost you? LR said I can go to anyone outside to have it done, not just them.

Consider yourself fortunate (on the cost and ability to get someone other than LR to do it). My LR3 came in January with a scratched windshield and the dealer said that they would replace it (heated, rain sensing, $1,800 piece of glass). After several months of "they haven't come in yet" one finally came in - for a Range Rover. More weeks waiting and I got hit by a hail stone. Small ding, grows into big crack, nearly a yard long. Finally an LR3 windshield came in last week. 180 mile trip, overnight stay (the job takes 8-10 hours), drop it off and they discover a few hours later that the replacement was cracked. I'm now scheduled to get mine fixed in June.

I'm starting to question the advisability of a heated, rain sensing windshield on an offroad vehicle.

Seems about right, Had a rock hit me on the interstate. The LR dealer steered me to an outside shop for the replacement. Replacing an LR3 HSE, heated, rain-sensing windshield cost me about $760. (WA state)

Is your winshield the same on the SE model then? If it is, I didn't know they were heated too.

Ouch, it's gonna hurt.

Yeah, my worse nightmare. Ive gotta a couple of dings in the windshield, err, windscreen and lord knows about replacing the heated glass.

Over on Disco3.co.uk a dude actually had an aftermarket windshield flood the truck during a car wash.

SE/HSE have the same, but its whether you have the 'Cold Package'.
The cold package has the heater wires in it.

FYI: I don't have the $ in front of me, but I think the OEM heated windshield is only slightly more (under $100?) than the OEM non-heated version. So, they are equally expensive or inexpensive... depending on your perspective.

This sounds like a dealer's service manager was blowing smoke up my pant legs about what they were having to pay for the replacement windsheild. $800 is still a lot of money, but $1,800 had me scared to get on the highway here.

Yeah, that's not good. I would call another LR dealer in your area and get a 2nd quote, just to see who is more honest about things.

I have replaced 2 heated windshields - one was on a 2000 Discovery, and the other on a 2004 Discovery. Both ran me $600, and I have had them replaced by a local independent guy that my dealer recommended. He is buying the OEM glass, but it just doesn't have the LR symbol on it.
