Had the radio off, driving 60 on the highway... and wind noise near the side view mirror. Humming rather loudly, nothing on the passenger side (i had someone driving with me). It was rather loud, and not your usual wind sound driving at high speeds.

Anyone experience this???

Most likely your A pillar cover has cracked at the mounts underneath. I you should be able to wiggle it / them and see if they are loose. You could also inspect your cowl in the process and consider replacing all three parts at the same time. Here is a link to a write up and a few pictures. Replace the \ with a . disco3 \ co \ uk /forum/topic76762.html

On the edge of the windshield is a black piece of plastic that runs from the roof down to just under the hood.

When this was broken and off it was amazing the amount of noise it made.

Open the drivers door, and grab that plastic in various spots and see if it is loose.

I had to replace both of these on my vehicle, plus the cowl because it was warped. This image shows the lower half of it.. disco3 \ co \uk /gallery/albums/userpics/11463/normal_P1020153-s.JPG

In laymen's terms...on mine the black metal roof rack extension pieces from the rack to the windshield came loose. Broken plastic clips caused it. I used HD double sided tape to reinstall for now. Works great!

Frequently the plastic cover cracks as well on the inside clip holders, that is why I recommend considering replacing it. The old plastic gets brittle, and if not already broken, end up broken upon removal. The new ones actually seem a bit more stout, so maybe they will hold up better.

On a recent trip to NYC, we drove thru a really strong storm when exiting Georgia into Tennessee...very strong winds and driving rain (man how I love those automatic wipers when passing semi's). The storm was so strong it ripped my left A-pillar cover totally loose, and the right one loose at the top. My wife used Siri to find an Autozone, so we got off in southern Chattanooga...not a move I would suggest during the evening hours. Crazy...but that is another story altogether.

No parts stores open, but fortunately the convenience store did sell duct tape. The storm had broke the top flange and pulled the 3 fasteners out on the left one. Then only thing that kept me from losing it was the bonnet/hood. The storm had just popped the top 2 fasteners out of the pillar on the right side. A bit of frantic drying, trying not to get hit by driving drunks &/or **** addicts...or shot (really), and I had both sides well taped down. All held well thru the remaining rain until we stopped in Knoxville for the evening. Next morning, re-taped and off we went. The duct tape held until we returned to San Antonio several days later. My wife said we looked like the Beverly Hillbilly's rolling into NYC with a duct tape on both sides of the windshield. At least it was black duct tape. ;-)

Anyway, once home I removed the mess and cleaned off the sticky goo. Then if first gorilla super-glued, then epoxied the clip holders into place. Then visited the dealer to purchase new clips...which were different than what I had. The guys I know in parts said the clips are probably the most common item they sell...stating that they are always replacing the clips, even on the new LRs. So far, so good.

This is my biggest gripe with my LR3... I've spent almost $600 to have the problem fixed... and it still isn't fixed...

I'm having to learn to live with it as Land Rover Austin racks up the cash every time I go in. It's always something different but it never gets remedied... I refuse to spend any more money on the issue...

I'm close to epoxying the damn things directly to the pillar. It's maddening that a $50k vehicle has this problem and it can't be fixed...

$600? Yikes!

Let me ask this question...are all the other holes that don't take a fastener covered with tape?

One thing I was going to do until the new fasteners held so well, was to install some good 3M Velcro in between the fasteners. The one thing I did do was installed foam weatherstripping on the A-pillar cover just below the hood/bonnet. It totally stopped all vibrations and noise. So far, so good (knocking on head).
