Anyone had any experience with adding these to their rig? Thinking about the short rails as opposed to the extended rails. It seems to me that they just bolt into the holes that the channel guard plugs fit into? The dealer wanted $250 to install but I cant think that they are that difficult.

I am just a little tired of the soft racks for the surf boards making noise and scratching the top.

Also there are a number of Chinese Knock Offs on Ebay/Craiglist. Given that I am not planning on carrying much more than the boards is it worth taking the risk?

Thanks for the advice.

I recently installed the extended rails on my LR3 and they were very easy. You just take off the plastic drip rail covers and underneath are some threaded holes that the rails fit right into.

As far as the knock-ofs, as long as they fit well to your roof and are rated to hold the weight you would be using, I wouldn't have any problem with them. You may also want to see what Yakima or Thule offers as well.
