A neighbor has a new LX570 in gray. Kids refer to it as the "Lumpy Great White Shark". I agree...something about the front looks like a shark, especially in gray.

I'm not a fan of the ugly side steps, tons of accent chrome and the goofy wood on the inside. Lexus should see any Audi for how to tastefully add wood to an interior.

Land Cruiser looks better, still lumpy but less bling. Should have a lower price tag though, IMHO.

So this is the best idea that Toyota engineers could come up with on how to store third row seats when not in use. Makes the Land Rover third row seat engineers look like geniuses. (Actually, they are - name another mid-size SUV with third row seating that fits adults - and folds completely flat & away)

And so here's the dilemma, should one purchase a "lumpy white shark" or a "lemon"?

The GL takes the cake. They fold fully flat, have no gaps and are powered. They may lack a little bit of head room but I found those seats very usable.

Were it not because similarly equipped it costs $20K+ more and its too big to fit in my attached garage, I would have bought a GL320.

I think the question should be what do you need a car for.
I bought LR4 because I needed room for 7 adults and good off road capability.
In additin to this I always liked the look of Lr3/ LR4.
The cargo room is fantastic, visibility is even better. Great V8 engine.
If you do not plan to take LR4 off road then there are better options on the market for you.
As for my needs LR4 was the only SUV which met my criteria and I love it.

Speaking of sharks, the Infiniti QX70 (formerly FX35/45) has the hammerhead look covered.

Mercedes GLs are nice but they are minivan-like in length and do not offer the same offroad capabilities.

I just moved to a 2013 LR4 from a 2011 Mercedes GL450. I also previously owned a Lexus SUV. All three are nice vehicles with similar finishes. Each one has a few features I wish the others had.

The Mercedes does have automatic fold rear seats. However, I NEVER used the 3rd row, so they were always folded down and this was a wasted feature. The Mercedes felt like it offered a little more 2nd row leg room. However, the steering and suspension were so soft, it felt like you were driving a ship.

The Lexus had a very nice interior and lots of smart finishes. It felt like the best made car of the three. However, being a guy, I wanted something more rugged. Pulling up beside other Lexus' hauling their kids around between pilates classes wasn't doing it for me.

I feel the LR4 is on par with both the Lexus and Mercedes for interior finishes. In terms of interior layout, I think it is just below the Lexus and well ahead of the Mercedes. Exterior wise, I personally love the rugged LR4 look (which is why I choose it ahead of the RRS). I would NEVER take my Lexus or Mercedes off road. I'm dying for the opportunity to get my LR4 onto the rocks or into the mud.

It is the best of both worlds for me. A rugged SUV with sharp looks and a luxury interior.

the reason for this 3rd row seat design is the solid rear axle, no suv has fold flat 3rd row without independent rear suspension that i know of.....

the cruiser is gonna be 15-20k more expensive , ride is not as well mannered, rear cargo room is seriously reduced by the seats, it is aesthetically uglier, has shorter warranty, less 360 driver visibility......these are the reasons i stuck with LR4

If I were in your situation, I'd just wait to see what the next re-design brings. I'm a Toyota and Rover fan, but buy based on being unique and special as others have mentioned as well as looks.

The Land Cruiser and LX don't do much for me in the looks department. And if you're concerned about going "soccer mom", it seems like getting one of the Toyota twins would move you closer to that description.

Truthfully, even the Sequoia looks more "buff" than the Landcruiser or the LX.
