...that was among my first thoughts and I'll have to re-watch the video for that. The sound seemed deeper and more hollow though, than what I remember of the shock tower vid.

It really seems like something loose and "flapping" around as opposed to something worn out and banging.

I re-watched...you know, that very well could be it. How would I check that visually? ...and any idea what the fix would be? Do they sell any kind of washer/bushing or anything like that?...sure as hell won't replace the entire shock just to eliminate the noise.

...oh, and what do you suppose the impacts are? I don't see this causing an early failure of the shock per se. Just annoying, right?

I believe I have found the culprit: The accoustic box has popped open and the upper cover is smacking against the rear lip of my RS Sliders.

It looks like I'm going to have to spend some real time on it; need to mate them together again. Not easy with the sliders blocking access both visually and with my hands.

Okay, so it turns out my lower acoustic box is gone, to fit in the slider-space; and the upper cover is just sort of half-on. I guess I have to live with it, improvise a solution, or just wait until I am forced to upgrade to the AMK and deal with it then.

So where is this acoustic box that you are talking about? This has been an ongoing problem for me and they way you described it matches what I have been going through. If I am going over a speedbump or any large even-ness there is no problem. But if I go over a slight bump or large crack on the road or even the grooves found on some driveways leading into a parking lot, I will hear this noise..
Ive always wonder if this was the same problem that causes the noise when Im driving on a slight elevated curve..sounds like I am driving over road reflectors when there is none. Ive taken it into my dealership and they spent a week on it before my extended warranty ran out.
So any tips you can give will be most appreciated.

Zulu, the acoustic box encloses your EAS air compressor. It is on the driver's side right in front of the rear wheel between the frame rail and the rocker panel.

That said, unless you have rock sliders, I can't see any reason why you'd be in my situation. My acoustic box was messed with in order to fit the sliders; the bottom was never put back so the top of the box had nowhere to fit into. So it flops around ane makes noise.

It's an easy thing to check, and if it's not that, it could be your swaybar bushiings...the noise is very similar.

I can't say that it does. I mean the clunk is there when the wheels drop, but it's ALSO there when there is any low amplitude bumps. I think it's just something loose (and GSM, it's OUTSIDE the cab for sure) and it's driving me nuts. Problem is with all my skid plates it could be hidden!

I had a clunk that was similar & I could only hear and feel it when the left front wheel dropped, and it didn't have to be a large drop at all. It turned out it was the steering rack and they had to replace the entire unit.

@thorgal: Any particular spot on the compressor that you found most suitable for zip-tying? That's a fine idea....I may want to do that myself this weekend.
