5 or 6 scoones ($), how much cheaper do you want to get for something that works very well, super easy to install with soapy water and doesn't negatively impact the light like a mesh would?

Do you have a link to the product you are referring to?
Yes, I'd be up for something like that. Just a thick transparent film that provides some rock protection.

The $5-$6 I'm referring to are the screen protector kits for iPad and other PDA's, that can be picked up dirt cheap at stores like TJ Maxx, $1 Stores and the like. I've re-purposed these with success thus far.

If you are looking for something more robust, you can visit the BAVAUTO.com website to find the clear urethane headlight protection kits. I just double-checked and the kit I had put on my '91 735i is listed for $49...quite a bit more. Considering the price of the replacement headlights I had put on 7 after two of the others being cracked by rocks (they use large bits of crushed lava on the roads in Idaho during the winter), I didn't mind the $50 to protect all the front lights on my car. The windshield...that's an entirely different story.

Thanks, I'll look. I agree, a simple iPad/Tablet kit I can re-purpose would be sufficient.

I want to find rolls of the stuff somewhere, though. Just generic. I can use them for a few different things (headlights, bikes, surfboards, etc.) I have bought the stuff when it is branded for a purpose and it is very expensive. I know they companies I buy it from don't make it, they just put it in a box and call it "board saver!" or whatever...

Mesh Light Guards - custom

I also think the wire mesh is the best idea - what size do you believe would work best? I just searched into this material a bit - http://www.bwire.com and I was thinking that the 30 x 30 (30 wires per inch) would be fine enough to block most rocks/debris from doing the damage to these bulbs (AGAIN!)

Do you think this mesh would be fine enough? I sent out for some samples and will post pics in a few days.

I'm interested to see how it works out for you. Protected lights are nice...but 10, 20, 30% loss or more in usable light would be my concern. Unless I only used the lights for cruising the urban wilds. ;-)

Loss of light

This Loss of light is my main concern - I will send photos as soon as I complete the wire mesh project.
