whats the specific reason for using ECB over oem? ive had mediocre experience with ECB in the past on my bimmers.

From what I read online it seems the OEM pads and rotors are not very durable. Lots of people change pads and rotors with under 20K miles. Some are able to get into the 30K's but based on cost and durability you can save a lot of money and get the green pads or step up to yellow or orange. My EBC rotors had very little wear after 30k miles compared to the OE and I was able to continue using them with my second set of pads. I think the OEM pads are optimized to reduce brake dust perhaps at the cost of durability.

Which EBC did you have on your bimmer and what was your experience?

if i remember correctly they were greens and they warped within 5k miles - a bunch of us with e36 M3s experienced this....

on my 07 RR HSE ive used Akebono pads and textar rotors and on my 2011 RR SC ive used new hawk pads

has anyone tried akebono, textar, or new hawk on the LR4s?

which EBCs for the lr4?

I was under the impression that the colors referred to the pad composition not rotors but I could be wrong.

For the LR4 the greens are the least expensive pads at around $65. The yellow are about double and the orange heavy duty are even more expensive. I had the yellow last time and they were fine. I did change to the higher end EBC rotor at the same time. I'm currently running the same rotor with the orange pass.

yes colors are for pads, not rotors - sorry for the confusion

i meant the pads warped, not the rotors...basically the pads were shot after 5k mikes

Sorry, I never heard of pads warping. I've heard of rotors being "warped" meaning uneven wear usually caused by the pads or over torqued wheels on the hub. Did you do the work yourself or have someone install and replace the pads you're referring to?

I currently have the EBC Ultimax rotors, which are slotted but not as aggressive as the EBC Sport rotors. I had the EBC Sport's on a Lexus GX470 and they had a constant whirring sound like a biplane - no thanks. The Ultimax rotors have last 30K miles and are on their second set of Green - SUV pads. I like the pads, but prefer the Hawk LTS pads that I had on my RRS S\C with Stoptech slotted rotors. I like slotted rotors as our ranch has lots of crushed granite which always gets between the pad and rotor. My next set-up on the RR will be Ultimax rotors with Hawk LTS pads.

EBC's had a really bad reputation with the WRX crowd. I myself bedded in a set of Reds for 600 miles before a track day. After two 30 minute sessions at Thunderhill I had worn them down to the backing plates - no wonder they never faded, just evaporated.

The Stoptech's did just fine. No rust and very little wear after 20K miles when I sold the truck. Plus, they were about half the price of the EBC Ultimax's. Stoptech does not make a front rotor for the 2008 RR HSE, otherwise I would get them over the Ultimax's.

sorry I see you have an HSE and had a RRS. On the HSE if its not supercharged why not go with the textar rotors and akebono pads? From reading what the guys have posted on rangerovers.net thats the preferred combo for HSE. For RR SC the akebonos aren't available so people default to the hawks fwiw.
