Overall not as bad as I was expecting. Im not hating the exterior and im thinking in person it will look better. I was worried it was going to grow too much in size to go over 200" in length. In the end it grew about 5" in length and pretty close to same height and width. Might still fit in my small city garage. Priced out compared to our 2016 was a few thousand more comparably optioned, not too bad I guess.

Hate the single hatch.

How long until I get to the new Defender.

I too hate the single hatch.

I think the biggest issue is the same as with BMW. You look at teh X1, X3, and X5 - they all look alike. They are very close in size. Body shape identical. Interior virtually identical. Of course there are subtle differences but to most people they look the same. It happens with their 5 series and 3 series.

You look at the LR website and now it looks like they make one vehicle. The LR stands out. Each vehicle used to be more unique in their line-up but now much more homogeneous.

Look at Jeep. They keep their heritage and the 7 slot grill but all look different. The Cherokee is not just a small Grand Cherokee.

Again, it is a great vehicle and if I were just shopping for an SUV, it would be up on the list. But it has strayed too far to be called a Discovery in my humble opinion.

Agreed.

Rumors are from those who have seen sketches of the new Defender that its lines look similar to the LR4's, which tells me why Land Rover wanted to move the Discovery line onto something else so that there weren't two nearly identical looking vehicles in the lineup.

But that doesn't explain why they made the Discovery look nearly identical to the Range Rover Sport. I suppose now that we've seen more, it looks "bigger" than a Range Rover Sport, but the overall aesthetic is nearly identical.

You're right. I keep asking questions for which I could find the answers online. I need to leave this alone until I get home from camping. No wifi here. So I have been lazy and just posting thoughts. Though for the time being I have moved on, I am still interested and intrigued. I would love to see LR come out with a big hit. But thus far it seems to be sort of mixed bag. And with more configurations and options.

I think this will be a big hit for LR, just not necessarily with the current LR faithful. Hopefully a new Defender will bring the rest of us along. If I was in the market with little experience with an LR truck, the Disco 5 would certainly be attractive enough to bring me into the showroom.

I just built mine with the same features as my '12 Lux and price is almost 80k. Looks like I will not be looking at these for a long time. I would probably get a slightly used '16 before on of these since they look just like all the other high dollar, egg shaped, soccer mom status symbols now.
Did that sound too bitter?o_O

I think Land Rover did a great job - intelligent evolution, and addressed most of my complaints with the LR3\4. I was expecting more second row legroom, but 37.5" is fine; especially considering that the Land Rover's thirdrow (33.5) has more legroom than the 4Runner's second row (32.9 second/29.3 third).

If anyone wants a large brick shaped SUV, my 2016 Suburban Z71 might be available in a year or so.

I would like to see a side by side of the RR Sport vs the new Disco, and the LR4 vs new. I know it is bigger, but how much is a question for me. Before i picked up LR4 i was considering an RRS, the RRS is much smaller.

Also, before i pass judgement i need to sit in it. The seating arrangement and dashboard position of the RRS was not to my liking when compared to the LR4. hopefully the new disco still has a more "vertical" dash (not sure how else to describe it). Important to note the Range Rover was ok, just the RRS i didn't like.
