My LR4 has developed a weird quirk. The second row, and ONLY the second row, sunshade likes to randomly retract. Since it's under tension it snaps open quite forcefully when it goes. It is loud and startles the kids if they are in back and the wife should she be driving.

I took it in, they tinkered with it, and it seemed better until...well, it wasn't again. It's gets hot where I'm at but if the temperature was perhaps warping the clip device then I'd expect to see it on the front and third row sun-shade as well.

Has anybody else experienced a similar malfunction? Before I take it back for warranty service I would just assume to fix it myself if it's a small remedy. (I'll be honest though, the Jaguar XF they let me use for the day almost makes its worth it! That thing is a rocket, but that's a whole other post all together.).

I just bought a 2016 LR4 Landmark with the heavy duty package. The second and third row sunroof shades are difficult to shut and snap open during normal driving and sometimes just from closing the doors. Took it in to dealer today and they supposedly fixed it. Will find out tomorrow morning. I also have a 2011 LR4 with the heavy duty package and it had the same problem, but less frequently. The dealer fixed the problem, but it took the tech all day to get it right. The problem never came back.

Same problem here, with my Aug '16 HSE. Yes, 2nd row sunroof. I was planning on waiting to see if I had an other issues before heading in. However, (and i'm not sure if this is a LR thing, or just my local dealer) but about 2-3 weeks after taking possession, they tried to schedule for an employee to meet with me and go over any questions I had with various driving controls or buttons. I finally scheduled his visit for this morning and I mention this. Apparently it is frequent problem and had performed several warranty repairs.

Not a single problem with sunshades on my 2013 LR4. It should not be related to high temp. I am in Phoenix area and it gets really got during summer time over here. City driving, off roading, kids in and out . Never ever my sunshade snap open.

Same here (2013.) No issues with either front or 2nd row sunshades, and my daughters must have slammed them open and close a thousand times over 3+ years.

I recently had the panoramic roof replaced (by Safelite) and now the 3rd row sun shade won't stay closed. I tinkered with it but no luck. The plastic clasp looks cheap so I'm guessing their "professional" installation causes it to become slightly misaligned.

I just got back from the dealership with my 2016 LR4. The second and third row shades were supposedly fixed. The service manager inspected the work, went for a short drive with me and then we got out and slammed the back doors. All was good. Until it wasn't. When I got back in the driver's seat and closed the door in normal fashion, the second row shade snapped open violently. Fortunately, the service manager was in the passenger seat and became a believer. This is a common problem from what I have been able to find online. As for Safelite, last fall the windshield on my 2011 LR4 cracked and my insurance company insisted on using Safelite. I had read about many cases where generic glass had not worked and told them that they should therefore use Land Rover glass. They insisted on using generic glass, saying it was just as good. Well, after installing two generic windshields that didn't work with the rain sensors and failing to install the cowl and trim on the A pillars properly, they finally installed Land Rover glass and got everything right. Took three weeks of aggravation and cost them a lot of money.

Almost 10 years and loads of miles with LR3 and 4 and never had a problem.

BTW, what does the HD package have to do with a sunshade?

You are lucky not to have had this problem, because it seems difficult to fix, at least for my dealer. As for the relevance of the HD package, who knows, this is a Land Rover after all. I know half a dozen people who have an LR4, only one of whom has the HD package, and guess what, she is the only one who had the shade problem.

...

Just wanted to add that I have had my truck nearly 4 years in the Middle East with 120F summers. I have never had an issue with the sun shades not latching, so I seriously doubt it is heat related.
