Hello,
Posting after a very long time
So we picked up our new MY16/Landmark last week. Very excited indeed. Drives like a dream, I will post my first impressions (going from MY13 LR4 LUX NAV8 to MY16 SCV6) soon.
But here is a thing that we noticed the first night we drove it from the lot to home. As we got out of the car (and even inside with windows down a bit) we smelled something burning (like oil combined with slight plastic or rubber or something). I shrugged it off thinking its a new car, things may just be heating up and settling in etc even though nothing like that had ever happened when I had picked up my 06 LR3 and then 13 LR4 (both new).
Everything seems fine under the hood, no spillage splatter, etc. and no pool/puddle or anything on the ground under the vehicle as well.
I did however notice "Overfilled" instead of "OK" when checking oil level via the Service menu. So I was like it may just be one time thing. By now over the course of about a week, I have seen this "Overfilled" warning at least three times, but granted this three times is actually out of the fifteen or twenty times when it showed "OK", over this past week of ownership.
Now that smell has gone away almost completely, but it had stayed for the first few days almost every time I drove the truck.
I am just a bit concern because this "Overfilled" is accompanied with the good old "Refer to Handbook" message, and when I go to Handbook, this is what it says under the oil lever section (page 220):
"If the message Engine Oil Level Overfilled is displayed, seek qualified assistance immediately. Do not drive the vehicle, as this will cause serious damage to the engine."
Has anyone encountered this smell/message in the past?
Is it something negligible or something to be worried about?
I am planning to take the vehicle to Service tomorrow to have it looked at, but I'll have to drive the truck out ten or twelve miles to them as this truck is my only vehicle and means of commute.
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.
