This is interesting, to say the least. Honestly, I've been looking at other Range/Land Rover models to replace my LR4 in the next year or two and I'm thoroughly confused as to what will be available. I guess my options will be: Evoque (no), Velar (prob not), Discovery Sport (*** is that), new Discovery (ding, ding), Range Rover Sport (tempting) and Range Rover (er, not dead yet). There are other other variants that I think I'm missing in this mix.

I have to say, the F-Pace is a pretty sweet looking small SUV. This Velar looks good, too. As the writer of this article notes, the Velar is a bit "mean" looking. I like it and the interior.

I made the mistake of trying out a friend's 500hp SCV8 RRS. That thing is a dang beast. Tempting is an understatement.

The F-Pace and Range Rover Velar are thinly disguised siblings, built on the same platform and sporting similar dimensions, performance and features. The Velar seems to offer more tech and luxury than the Jaguar, but it costs more as well. Plus, it'll be several months before it's available. The F-Pace is here now. They are both attractive vehicles if you are looking for a luxury midsize crossover in the same league as the Macan, the new Alfa, Maserati, BMW X4, and a gazillion other competitors in that class. The new Discovery or even a Sport are different animals, IMHO. There is a going thread on the Velar: http://www.landroverworld.org/threads/velar.28976/

My point exactly in a previous post - the options LR is putting out must be making them most of their profit as I cannot see how you add $39,400 to a base model without suffering some serious depreciation! Those first edition lease units will make a much better buy in 3 years with 30,000 miles for $50,000.

So SVO meticulously applied the satin finish.

Really? That is what they do? Fail.

Only 500 First Editions are US-bound. They will probably be sold before they are even unloaded from the vessel bringing them over... I doubt there will be many leased ones among those. ;) The 2006 RRS Supercharged First Edition in Vesuvius Orange went for tens of thousands above sticker when that model first came out in 2005. Some people just gotta have the first one no matter the price, and surely there are 500 of those people around here.

I know it is kindof off topic non-JLR vehicle, but I bought a new 2017 Infiniti QX50 yesterday for my wife. This thing is a hell of a lot of bang for the buck. Drives like my other G35x sedan, has the 3.7L V6 with 330hp and a 7 speed AT. The pricing on these things new is great, you can talk them down the the 35k range on a 40k sticker easily. It is an older design, but has the largest motor they use (other than the titan/qx80 v8). It's rear biased AWD, normally all power the the rear unless launching or in snow mode. Most of the rest of the segment is going to little 2.0L turbo engines and CVTs.. bleh. I'll take the 20mpg combined and the fun.
