The whole Explorer clone thing had me against this vehicle for quite a while. However, now in person, I do not see it like it anymore than a lot of SUVs. This is the way that design is going. The local PD has Explorer and see them all the time - missing the connection more each day.

I have had more people comment on the nicety of the D5 than my LR4 or Fpace in the first month. Of course my wife points out all the time that "your plates crooked" and I say "no, it is just off center".

With that being said, I do miss the LR4 boxiness...

Just returned from a 1200 mile road trip. Now have 3000 miles on it in approx one month.

Still will state that it is twice the vehicle the LR4 was for me. The only area that it MIGHT do better is the extreme ends of off-roading. Mine has 22" and would not be well suited. I have a Wrangler for off-roading anyway so it does not bother me.

Engine/Transmission:
Bulletproof proven design. Only issue is when coming to a stop, the down shift from 2nd to 1st is smooth but can lag. You have to let it "catch up" before it will go again. My LR4 and FPace (same engine/trans) did not do this so I will the dealer looksee.

Ride:
Could not be happier with the ride quality. I do have the 22"s aired down slightly. Wind noise is almost none. It does just as well as my LR4 on soaking up road boogers but is more responsive. Acceleration seems faster and smoother than my LR4. It seemed just as solid as the LR4 on the road - plenty stiff.

Seats:
The LR4 was great but these are even better. The massage seats are functional and they are easy to adjust to find the right position. No fatigue on the long trip. 5'9" passenger in teh second row was more than comfortable on the trip. Did not miss the stadium seating of the LR4.

Technology:
All digital dash and ICTP did great. A couple times the ICTP was slow to reboot after a quick gas stop. I like how it will show the map on just one section of the dash screen so I can always have the map and have the radio on the ICTP. All safety features - including adpt cruise - worked flawlessly. I was in Canada for nearly half of it and my ATT 3G connection did not work. I used my phone as a hotspot so I could get traffic.

Storage:
It is great on this one. With the third row down, we had a large hockey bag, large suitcase, large cooler, and two medium suitcases - plus a few misc bags of food in the boot. And I was able to see out the entire rear window. Never ran out of places to put our drinks and such.

Looks:
Still subjective but definitely growing on me more each day.

Let the haters hate - this is one great vehicle. There is so much misinformation out there and some of these video reviews are just wrong on features and such. It took me a while to stomach getting the car but now wonder why I did not do it earlier.

Great to hear. Only got about 250 miles on mine. Going to be towing 1,800 Miles with it next month, so I’ll have more to say about it then.

I too have the 22” wheels. Hoping to find someone to swap for 20s. If that doesn’t happen then I’ll,probably swap to 18”off-road wheels and tires and keep the original wheels for highway only driving.

LR4 Wheels fit as an FYI. I'd suggest scouring Craigslist because you can probably grab a set cheap. I was lucky enough to have a set of 20" LR4 wheels with snows left over that I'm outfitting with 275/55/20 BFG KO2 A/T tires for a 6,000 mile trip towing our AS in June/July. 22" are my "summer wheels" as well.

Originally I was not a fan of the 22" wheels. I do not like the ride or bling of the larger wheels. However, with the car being this large, the 22" wheels do not look out of place and several have asked if they really were 22" wheels. The ride is great. At first it was horrible but the dealer aired the tires down - still well within spec - and it was like a different car. Still very quite and smooth. No issues over bumps/potholes.

Would still get the wheels for any off-road/winter. Will keep looking for a good deal.
