Let’s just say between the Saints game and the Eagles I’m in need of a quick stint in rehab.... oh wait that’s every NFL season with my Queens!

So am going to pick up my 3 tomorrow. After digging further into the noise it appeared to be multiple areas. The biggest and most obvious was the front left wheel bearing. So replaced both, as well as changed out the fluid in both the front and rear diff. Starting there.
My guy said the drain plug on both were very clean with virtually no shavings. The fluid was nasty but no chunks. Am very interested in driving it to see if it’s quieted back down.

Well I’m so pleased with the ride. I’m shocked how loose the front was, it drives like new.
As for the noise, it’s much better but still there. It appears more affected by throttle input.

Well you never did give a solid explanation of the symptoms but it’s possible that it wasn’t the differential at all.... several things can make nose up front, certain ones will be affected by throttle input.

I’ve had wheel bearings done, diffs, half shafts (axle&bearings), and prop shafts all replaces at one point. All make different sounds but the hardest one to solve was the fairly easy to replace front half shafts.

It was the one mainly doing a pulsating sound and feeling you could sense in the floor but would stop entirely upon letting off the gas and coasting.

Hey Jwest,
The noise coming out of my driveline started a while back (approx 70k). It almost sounded like you were riding on highway with grooves in it or had aggressive tread tires. At the time the noise was directly related to speed but would not go away or lighten in volume when you let off on the accelerator.
Now it’s higher pitched, and the volume drops when you let off on the pedal.

ok, not at all what my half shafts did so probably not those. i know wheel bearings can make sound no matter what is done as they get worse. if those are original, i would not be surprised if it's them.

can you hear or feel anything at very low speed like approaching a stop or tight driveway turn?

i cannot recall how the differential sounded though

He just replaced the wheel bearing. Everything feels really good, just noisy.
If it was the diff was toast I would have expected a metal shaving soup when we changed the fluid. Idk.

jwest - could you describe the symptoms of your bad half-shafts?

I have a growling/grinding noise in my 08 LR3 SE that starts around 25 mph. It does not change much with speed or rpm increase. It is pretty loud with the windows up and I can feel it in the pedals/steering wheel. With the windows down I cannot hear it at speed.

I did change front/rear diff fluids and t case fluids. The front diff fluid was dark and full of shavings. I am leaning towards changing the front diff fluid again to see if there are more shavings.

The noise is only present on throttle but does not change with the amount of throttle input.
