Hi All,

I recently purchased a 2013 LR4. The previous owner had their Home address set in the navigation. I’ve been messing around with it but can’t seem to reset it to my home address. Any advice? Thanks and apologies if this is already an old topic.

I think it's pretty deep in the navigation preferences. Personally I never program home because if somebody steals your ride they now have where you live and access to your garage/gate/home.

It should be fairly easy to modify or delete on a 2012+. Nav Menu > More > Stored Locations > Home Location > Delete (or Edit/Modify if you just want to change the address to your own). Not sure about earlier model years as the interface of 2010 and 11s is quite different.

Couldn’t agree more but I do normally just put in a house number close by and not my exact address. Just looking for a quick way to know how far I am from home. Thanks!

I read somewhere that another alternative is to enter the address for a police station not far from where you live, if there is one reasonably close.

I'm not sure why there is such a concern for having your address in the Nav system? You don't have your registration in the glovebox?

The previous owner of my 2012 CPO still had his address in the Nav, didn't matter too much because his address and phone number were on the extended tire warranty paperwork in the glovebox.

Excellent point. It would entirely depend on how determined the thief was to locate your residence. Paranoid types could possibly have a PO box instead of a street address on the registration / insurance cards.

I see what you are thinking here, you don't want the thief to find your house from the vehicle navigation. I respect that concern, I have thought that too. Don't over think it though.

Is the registration and insurance current on your vehicle? Do you keep documentation of this in your glovebox? Unless it's registered with a PO box your address will be on that registration. Do you have any old mail (letters, bills, magazine) maybe one of your kids library books in your vehicle? Your name will be on the insurance, registration or mail too, a criminal can find your address with your name and city you live in.

In the end, if someone steals your vehicle, with a little bit of work they can figure out where you live, and if they stole your LR4 and figured out where you live, they will probably be able to get into your house without a garage door opener.

Oh I know there's a hundred ways for it to happen. My state doesn't require keeping the registration in the car and the same for the insurance. As long as I can produce both within 24 hours of incident then it's fine. I'm just not about making it easier for someone to do bad things with ease. If they want to get into my house they can break a window or a door but that's going to be something that's loud and alerting to anybody in the house vs. my ride rolling up and opening the garage door that will go unnoticed by neighbors, house occupants, etc.
