RR Evoque check engine light

I recently had the check engine light come on and brought it to a local shop that didn't deal exclusively in Range Rover. They cleared the codes and thought it drove ok but it didn't -- the light came on again within days after I collected the vehicle and the day I got it back, I noticed the RPM was revving high.

What was happening is the RPM was revving high and I'd have to manually shift. Then while driving, my vehicle would lose speed and it would automatically downshift and the RPMs would skyrocket and I'd have to manually shift up again - and the vehicle would still crawl and the same thing would happen over and over. If I drove it like a granny on a flat road it would work from one light to the next then it wouldn't work to the next light, etc. You get the idea.

We changed the battery on our own about six weeks ago and thought that might be the issue. But since I didn't want to destroy the engine, I thought it might be best to take it to RR.

RR has since called me and told me a bearing in the turbocharger is gone and this has caused the gearbox to lock. They can't get the gearbox to unlock unless they fix the turbocharger bearing for almost 5k. Right. After they fix this THEN they can look at the gearbox which might be causing the transmission error but they first have to fix the turbo to determine the gearbox. Then he said the transmission seems "ok."

There is NO WAY we believe this pile of horse manure. I've got a call in to a local guy who is NOT RR affiliated and he's known for his fair pricing. But I wanted to throw this conundrum out to ya'll since this is a complete nightmare. And no, there is no extended warranty.

That sucks, I am sorry to hear that. I wish I knew more about the 4 cylinder turbo engine models.

Do you know what the P codes were? This is what can point you in the proper direction. I had the same chk eng. light issue..I allowed this to go on for too long and the code now indicates persistent missfire on cyl. 3. Now I am being given the option
to replace the eng. (19K) or tear down to find out just exactly what the issue is... ($2,300) and hope the eng. does not have to be replaced. (guess which opt. I choose
But the misfire I experienced seemed to bring about the same issues you note with losing speed, and outright stopping and I would have to restart and limp back home.

I agree, and also doubt your turbo is at fault..but you should ck and see what codes are being produced first..

Does anyone know just what the cost of a NEW or USED RR Evoque 2L 4 cyl. 24V turbo runs?
