While installing the new sc pulley from velocity ap my mechanic noticed some dried coolant as per the pictures. Now he colluding find an active leak although it appeared to be originating at the water pump. The coolant levels were fine and no overheating or anything. Not sure why this would have leaked but not leaking now. Thoughts?
Is the crossover only something problematic on the v8?
He suggested I get a water pump kit and have it in hand if this thing fails.
Anything else I need to get or other ideas?

Man that is nasty. Your waterpump looks to be toast.
Yeah likely. Still working I guess. And not leaked out much. I want to order the parts but am still confused is there a crossover pipe on the scv6 that needs replacing too? All the threads I see are bout the v8. And I looked at the parts diagram and am not seeing it. What am I missing?

I've been told our SCV6's have cross over pipes. You can see the front one. I haven't bothered to find the rear one... yet. On my last visit to dealer, I brought up the issue of the weak coolant system infrastructure. My tech agreed it's a problem, he ran a pressure test on my coolant system, mine passed. Not sure if that means anything though. I run out of manufacturer warranty in November. :(

My first LR4, a 2014, had a catastrophic oil intercooler failure. Oil entered the coolant system, at 4300 miles.

Something needs to be done by LR to correct this. It's not right.

yeah, just got in there and there is one. although in my case there is no leaking around there, just the pump. i am trying to find out if there is any soft coverage by corporate for the TSB given that my VIN is in the TSB and i am so close to warranty coverage. If not, I will replace the pump, crossover and thermostat and call it a day.

No dealer near me thinks they ever get covered out of warranty so I am ordering the parts myself. Here is the scv6 crossover pipe. https://parts.landroverpalmbeach.com/p/49373519/Lr050934.html
Getting the water pump from Atlantic British and the other stuff from lr Paramus parts department. My local dealers quote me double the price for the parts as ordering them online from NJ. Amazing.

The SCV6 is the same engine as the V8 but with two cylinders blanked off. It should theoretically allow for easier spark plug replacement as the back two are tight. Ridiculous complexity add by LR to gain maybe 1 mpg. The tuning is intriguing though.

First water pump went out pretty early on, covered by warranty, blew plastic pipes out at about 105,000 miles and now at 120,000 miles, small leak in current water pump, will need replacement soon.

gotta love it! taking mine in wednesday for the pump, thermostat, and various other related parts that might fail. hope that nips things in the bud for the rest of my days with the truck! I spoke with a LR TECH when i did my final warranty repair and he said the only thing he sees regularly before 100k on these trucks is the water pump. FWIW
