Were you on an extended warranty? I dealt with two different ford dealerships for over a month trying to get my F150 fixed and I was able to prove lies all over the place between the two of them. I went after the general manager of both and also opened a case with the Attorney General (for Illinois) due to their bad practices. <-This is how I ended up with my LR. Good call on going to corporate but I'd go further and get the law involved if you really think something isn't right. Get them to give you the full documentation of what was done and when...if they can't produce that (or won't) then I'd take them to the cleaners on bad faith alone. If the work was done in mid-August why would you get your LR back in September? There's a lot of things that don't seem right here...best of luck and I hope you get satisfaction!

Forgot to mention - they put a hundreds of miles on my truck trying to diagnose an obvious issue. I billed them for each mile they put on it and they paid out because they didn't want the AG barking up their tree anymore.

What is with all the corrosion on that engine? I would ask point blank about the provenience and if it cannot be explained then talk to corporate.

If that's a junkyard motor, I wouldn't have too much faith in this dealership ever coming through and making things right. If the LRNA doesn't work out, I'd lawyer up. Not sure about Massachusetts, but many states have merchandising and practices laws that protect consumers from crooked dealers. The beauty of a lot of these laws is that they also allow for reasonable attorney's fees should you win. This means lawyers love these cases and they don't cost you a cent.

Thank you for all of the responses. Still working on this with them, and I think it will be a bit of time before we come to a resolution. Just wondering where on the engine would I find the serial number?

I love that (most of) this group never passes up an opportunity to trash the D5. :aetsch:
I have thoroughly enjoyed every D5 I have driven.
I will be ordering one this fall I like it so much.
I will be keeping my LR4, as the D5 will be used primarily for on road adventures.

Exactly what I was thinking...keep my LR4 for beach driving and off road but get a D5 next year for on road. I used to love driving Audi avants (wagons). If I think of a D5 as a replacement for my 2004 Audi allroad, it's a perfect fit. With the lower roof, lower seating position, thinner steering wheel, better handling and better technology it feels like a wagon. Compared to a Q7, XC90 or GL, it's a winner.

Partially threadjacked this one...but I'd have to say for a daily driver I'd probably think this: LR4>XC90>D5. If I had no LR4 option I'd go XC90 before D5.

Very interesting! I will definitely keep this in mind for sure.

It was an extended factory warranty.

I would not be very confident either until I get the truth about the engine. Replacing the timing chain and chain guides is a very common issue on the 2012 LR4. It could take a couple of days as you have to pull off the front bumper to get at it, but not months. Maybe the tech installed it wrong and damaged the engine at start-up. Then you deserve a new or rebuilt LR engine, not a mystery junkyard engine.

The harder issue would be what to get if you trade-in the LR4. I just spent 3 days with a loaded $78K Discovery 5 loaner and it fails in so many ways as an LR4 replacement.

The tech installing it wrong and damaging the engine sounds like something that could have totally happened, as I'm remembering all of the calls and my service rep telling me at least 2 times weeks apart that they were taking it out for another test ride.

And yes, the harder issue is what to get if I trade it in. I currently have the Jaguar F-Pace as a loaner, had 3k miles on it when I got it (at almost 8k now), and I can not wait to not be driving it anymore. So many annoying little things about it.
