FSM procedure attached.

Note that steps 18-25 explain how to reset the oil level sensor, based on whatever you put in the sump after draining & changing the filter. The oil level measurement system in this engine is a really terrible design, IMO. There's no excuse for it not being able to display an absolute level, same as you'd have on a - gasp - dipstick.

There is no requirement to prime the oil filter. Priming the filter is typically used on metal screw-on filters that are installed vertically from the bottom, as it's easy to fill those before installing on your old small block Chevy. I'm pretty sure "priming" the LR4 filter would do precisely nothing.

I've never added more than 8 quarts. And when I add 8, I'm right at the top. I add what I take out.

BTW, I HATE, HATE the LR4's electronic dipstick. I hate that it needs to be level and warm, but not too warm. Ugh, what a PITA. I feel like I can never get a reading. It doesn't even tell you why it can't. If it at least told you "TOO WARM" or "TOO COLD" that would help.

Thanks, first I had heard of this reset procedure using the cruise control cancel button, etc.

There is a service procedure (pressing a sequence of buttons on the nav unit display) that bypasses the usual oil level display. Can't recall where I saw it. It enables a person doing an oil change to see the oil level without the usual warm thing etc.
