LR4 Navigation Update...

People still use in-vehicle nav systems?

Yes, I prefer them and until there is a phone navigation system that integrates into the oem GUI or HUD I will continue to use them.
If you're a technological Neophiliac who demands the newest or better tech than the LR4 or Land Rover in general isn't for you.

I guess. As long as people are willing to fork over $100s of dollars for updates that the phone aps do for free daily... What lets down the in car system is real time traffic and road closures, accidents etc.

does the 2018 version do anything else aside from updating the maps? does it change the interface or the input screen?

No arguments here. The TMC in these vehicles is FM based so it is probably the worst and slowest to update with second place being the Satellite TMC Feed for other vehicles. . In addition it is nowhere near as accurate as other vehicles which use RTTI through Intrix which is what google maps and waze use but waze has user data to input so it updates quicker since people are updating. Intrix vehicles get data through the OBD along with the transponders along the road which is then uploaded to Intrix then broadcast back to your GPS. When waze updates it gets the info quicker because it is skipping all those steps.

No. A firmware update would do that not a map update.

No idea, but I imagine there is considering it's a rather old and "buggy" platform to begin with so I assume there are updates. I know the 2016 runs on Denso 2511 while 2012/2013 are on Denso 09F5. I am not sure if that is because it is different hardware or different firmware. In addition you're probably on software v30.10.51 which is eight years behind the most current release.

So if i want to ask my dealer to update it what do i ask for specifically?

I am not sure they will update just because you request but you can try. Simply state that you would want the latest and greatest and for them to update to the most current revision for the system's firmware. Clearly 2016 operates on a different version than previous versions but I am not sure if it hardware related or simply firmware/software. Inquire and share your findings with us. If at all possible I'd love to have the version our 2016 has on our 2012.

So I asked my dealer about doing a nav update and they tell me there is no update right now. Did I not ask the question correctly or did she just not know anything???
