Hello all. So I posted a few months ago that I had a whine (metallic sounding) when I accelerated. The truck was new to me, so I chalked it up to not being used to the throatier v8 that the LR4 has compared to the disco 2 it replaced. Anyway the noise is really annoying so I posted a you tube video to make sure it’s “normal”. It happens when I accelerate (changing pitch depending on how hard I accelerate). Then, if I let off the gas, it stops until the tranny shifts to accommodate for the deceleration. Once that shift happens and I begin to slow down the noise comes back. I tried changing speeds and doing different things so you can understand how the sound changes. I hope it’s normal for the sake of not having a problem, but I also hope it isn’t because it drives me nutty. It’s faint in the video, so it’s better if your volume is turned up. Other than this noise and having to grease the steering u-joint the truck has been great the past 6,000 miles. Anywho, any help will be appreciate

Differential (front likely) or transfer case whine. Miles on your LR4 and when were the fluids last changed?

Truck currently has 99,000. I purchased it with 93,000. I have the dealer printout for servicing. The transfer case was re-sealed at 70,000 along with The differentials being serviced

*** is a transfer case "re-sealing?"

That's a big question mark to me, considering I haven't heard of any problems with the LR4 transfer case, especially at that mileage.

I’m not sure how the LR4 transfer case is set up but I re-sealed the transfer case on my discovery two. It developed a leak from the bottom plate where it was prone to do so. Here is a picture of the history report from land rover. It was an expensive repair at almost $1200... number 14 on the list. Also, I was wrong it was done at 80,000 miles along with the differentials. They had this all done along with the control arms at that point... thought I was getting a good deal on the truck.... hopefully this doesn’t turn out to be something serious

Any answer on what the noise is? I’ve got the exact same issue (170,000) only difference is that mine can be heard in park too that why I was ruling out TC &diffs I’m really hoping it’s a bearing on a pulley but am almost to nervous to start trouble shooting.... sounds labor intensive and expensive

I'm at 193,000KM and i'm begining to hear a whining noise too but at all times while driving and in Park. I'm thinking it could be anything, water pump, alternator, p/s pump, tensioner, pulley etc. I plan to check once the weather gets better if it doesn't break before then.
