For the life of me, I can't get these Daytime Running Lights (DRL) to TURN OFF on the 2015 LR4 HSE (factory installed DRL).

I've seen previous Threads on this, but for older (pre-15') models so not applicable. The dealers are playing dumb. One says they don't know. The other one says it can't be done. Both are obviously ignorant. Both with try for $200/hour to see w/no guarantee. Classic.

I found this link (below) for the 2016 LR4, however, despite following the steps accurately I can't get the DRL off on my 15'. I like the safety feature, but don't live in an area with much daytime weather, so it's unnecessary and screams pull me over! I'd at least like the option. Please help!

(THIS DOES NOT SEEM TO WORK FOR THE 2015 LR4 w/ factory installed DRL)

DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS (DRL)

With the lighting switch in the Off/Auto position, the Daytime running lamps will switch on automatically under the following conditions:

  • The engine is running.

  • The gear selector is out of Park (P).

  • The Electric Parking Brake (EPB) is not applied (is released) - market dependent.
Unless required or prohibited by law, the Daytime running lamps can be disabled or enabled. To disable or enable the Daytime running lamps, carry out the following procedure:

NOTES
In order to be successful, the procedure detailed below must be completed within 20 seconds.

  • Make sure the vehicle's ignition is switched off, and the lighting switch is in the Off position (1).

  • Switch the vehicle's ignition on. See SWITCHING ON THE IGNITION.

  • Turn the lighting switch to the Low beam headlamps on position (3).

  • Turn the lighting switch back to the Off position (1).

  • Press and hold the rear fog lamp switch (8) for more than 2 seconds.

  • Release the rear fog lamp switch.

  • Turn the lighting switch to the Low beam headlamps on position (3).

  • Turn the lighting switch back to the Off position (1).

  • Turn the vehicle's ignition off.

I don't think anyone has ever tried to turn the DRL LED lights off on the 2014+ before.

You could try buying the GAP IID tool and see if you can disable them that way, but there's no guarantee it will work. I suppose you can email them and ask (they are very helpful) before you buy.

LR is notorious for making random changes - some identical features that can be changed without a dealer on my 08 LR3 cannot be done on my 08 RR and vice-versa. Really makes no sense to me. The 15 manual does not show any process, it just says to contact the dealer. You could show them this and then have them "figure it out" on their dime before scheduling the service - should only take 5-10 min if they know the proceedure, although they may have a min charge if no other services are being performed.

It does look like you can turn it off with an IIDTool if you are inclined to purchase one.

I don't understand the logic. Sorry to be of no help, but I love the way the 14-16 DRLs look. Keep the car looking new-ish/modern enough while still having the lovely boxy LR look of old.

I don't think law enforcement see a 3 ton box of an SUV with Rover DRLs and think, "Oh, I better pull that sumbitch over, but if his lights were off he could've gone free!"

Lights affect visibility and safety in a positive way. LE officers pay more attention to sports cars, ridiculous lifted trucks and ****** older vehicles than they do our understated LR4s; DRLs or no.

Thanks to all for the great feedback!

Has anyone tried this on their 2016 LR4 w/factory DRL (does it work):

http://www.ownerinfo.landrover.com/document/LS/2016/T19947/18742_en_GBR/proc/G1801525

As has been pointed out above, I found the 2015 LR4 manual link and it's different*:

http://www.ownerinfo.landrover.com/model/LS/2015/document/18970_en_GBR?section=T19947

*Unless required or prohibited by law, Daytime running lamps can be disabled or enabled by a Retailer/Authorized Repairer.

Lastly, going into a high crime area in a major city with the DRL does attract additional attention, but in any event I just want it off and the option. I can turn my lights on during day as needed. Hate any forced options, but to each their own...
