Help choosing for LR4 w/ 2.5" lift?

Desire 285/60r18 or 285/50r20 tires.

Option 1: Compo 18x8 wheels w/ +44 offset
Option 2: RRS Stormer 20x9.5 w/ +53 offset

Questions:
1. 8" width seems narrow for 285 width tire?
2. Will 9.5" rim hit ball joints on LR4?
3. Will +53 offset on Stormer wheels cause rubbing w/ 285 width tire?

Would love an educated point of view...

285/60/18 tires will fit a 8"-10" wheel, so it will work fine, but it will have more "bulge" at the sidewall (built-in rim protection). Sometimes this is a good look and sometimes it is not, it just depends on the vehicle overall.

With a 2.5" lift, you could also go 275/65/18 which would be a 7.5"-9.5" wheel. This is a 32.1" tire, so you may need to do a little grinding on the frame horns, but I am not 100% on that. Plenty of threads do discuss that however if you search it.

I am uncertain about #2 and #3

Thanks Catman. So if my current 19" wheels are a 53mm offset at I believe 8" wide, moving to the same offset on a 9.5" wide RRS Stormer wheel w/ a wider "285" tire and up from 30" to 31.2" tall would not rub w/ 2.5" lift?

FYI, "rubbing" has very little to do with what lift you have. Rubbing on LR4s first occurs more when you are turning, and it happens when the tires hit something on the frame. You'll have to figure this out long before before suspension height plays that big of a role in tire size.

Ironically, lifting the vehicle increases the likelihood of this happening, as it moves the wheels a little closer to the frame. Getting wheels with a lesser offset will help this issue a little.

what ryanjl said is correct. Don't listen to johnson rods or any other rod ********. Lift rods don't help with tire fitment. They are only useful for looking cool. They serve no additional function.

Dito to the above. IMO 265 is about as wide as you want to go on a LR4. It's plenty of footprint and still fits up into the wheelwells. FWIW cooper ST Maxx's in 265/60r18s on 40mm offset rims fit with no rubbing, but there's not a massive amount of extra room. I think you'd get rubbing at full compression with significantly wider tires. I like having a little clearance so you've got room for mud buildup, snow chains, etc. If you don't need/want a little room I'd consider 265/65r18s (note BFGs run small, cooper Maxx's are about a half-size larger for a given size). Also, I don't think you'll be able to get a 32"+ tire in the stock spare tire location. So if you want a spare tire, you'll probably want to limit to 31.5" on the upper end.
