So Ive been looking for a new off road tire for some time. I was about to just buy the raid wheels by mudtech and get some all terraims... But I stumbled upon this general grabber at3 and x3 made in our tire size. Apparently they're huge in the UK. I've found them on a few UK tire sites. Just wondering why an American tire company doesn't sell them in the US. And by the way Devon 4x4 has the x3 for 700 and change shipped to my doorstep. Is there a reason they're so cheap? I've heard only good things about general. I'm about to shoot Devin an email to see if they're really going to sell me these tires.

Well let us know what they say. My wife really liked the General Grabber AT2's on our LR3 (in 18") and would likely opt for the AT3 for her RR over anything else out there in 255/55/19 right now. I may do the same thing you are considering if you have luck with them!

Really interesting. I'd suggest calling General directly, they may be able to supply in the US without having to ship to the UK and back. General is hugely active in off road (desert) racing and really supportive of the sport. I'd imagine their tires are solid for off road. If you happen to be near a BITD or SCORE race swing by the General tent (usually at staging the day before the race) and a factory rep might throw you a bone.

So I've spoken with continental/general tires. They said the tire is not available for sale in the US due to legal issues. I also got an email from Devon 4x4 saying shipping them to me would be no problem. Wondering if these tires would pass customs if I did order them. They are the most aggressive tires I've seen in this size. And there is a promo video by general using land rover lr4's with this tire. Just don't understand why they're not available stateside.

Probably haven't gone through a DOT approval process because General didn't see enough sales potential to warrant the expense. Just a guess.

There are also the Atturo Trail Blade tires that are available in 255/55/19 sizes, if you want something aggressive that's also "legal" in the U.S.

I still think the biggest shortcoming in any tire in this size is the XL load rating and the weak sidewalls, though.

I agree completely. I've looked at the duratrac and the Cooper's. Ill prob end up saving my money and ordering some mud tech raid 18's. Thats too bad they're not selling them stateside tho. Those generals look great.

On this note, I just discovered that Kuhmo Canada makes the Road Venture AT51 in 255/55/19. It is not on the Kuhmo Canada website for some reason, but 1010Tires.com has them and confirmed Kuhmo Canada has 40 in stock. They seem to have decent reviews if you like the design. Unfortunately, the MT version (which looks nice) is not available in that size.

Great looking tire. I'll definitely read up on them.
