LR3/4 lovers, fret not. Replacement maybe on the way.

Stumble upon this, quite exciting, could be the real winner if done right:

https://www.motortrend.com/news/land-rover-defenders-spiritual-successor-one-step-closer-production/

“ideally this car we want it to be as reliable as the toyota land cruiser”, yes please.

“It does need to be as simple as we can make it in the modern world”, exactly. Thats what the LR3 was to quite an extent.

They seem to be not only quite open to suggestions but have also been actively seeking input from the potential customers via social media.

I wonder which will happen first...LR launch the next Defender or this guy engineer a totally new vehicle, build a new manufacturing plant and market the Grenadier.

We should probably put together a group buy now as our LR4's will have 200K miles before either happens.

The LR3 was simple? Compared to the Disco II it replaced it was the space shuttle.

Ha, indeed. But what I meant to say was if you compare it to our modern world of today LR3 is pretty simple, mechanically and electrically, a nice balance so to speak. So if they end up making something that does not exceed that balance electronically that would be great.

For example, along with an auto pilot mode like our LR3/4, a fully manual override mode for lockers' engagement would be awesome.

From what I can understand from reading the Motor Trend article is that this is not Land Rover/Tata, but a private group financed by some smart rich guy.

Perhaps the plan is to design a reliable 4x4 that might have a market and then offer it to Tata to build under the Land Rover name.

I suppose that would be no different than building Ford vehicles with LR stickers and perhaps the Grenadier folks would use Ford parts so .....

Yup, not a chance of this being built. And the idea of 4 doors is a stretch, but you can throw out any ideas of a 7 passenger. I swear I'm going to have to keep my LR3 running forever, or at least until I find a decent replacement. I haven't see anything that fits the mold since 2008 when I bought my LR3 with 20K miles on it.

At least the 4.4 will go forever, unlike the LR4 motors...

Why do you have to be like that?

Having owned a LR3 for 6 years and now a LR4 for almost 7 I will say I would rather face the prospect of replacing the timing chain guides (although not yet at 105k miles knock on wood) and enjoying every day the substantial ****** of the mighty 5.0L over the rather anemic 4.4L while benefiting from better fuel economy, handling and terrain response to boot lol.

Enjoy your 3, no need for hit and run troll statements to drive wedges between 3/4 owners.

Nice jab, btw my LR3 motor had a timing chain death rattle at 105,000 miles. $6000 to fix. LR4 motor, purrs like a kitten...
