We know issues with old lr 3 winch. It would bunch up and jam if raised without load. If air wrench used to raise/lower it would fail.

I know the new winch doesnt use a nut winder (preventing use of air wrench) but did they also fix the problem where if it is raised without wheel (some weight) on then jams? Any improvement there?

Also seems they did not change the end that goes through the wheel. For the spare its fine but extremely tight fit to go through smaller hub center hole of the normal wheels. Anyone have any tips?

I agree it's a pain to thread the needle even on a stock full-size spare or the factory donut. Regardless, you are going to be on your back, side, or stomach ridin' dirty as you find that exact angle that lets the flared piece go through the wheel's center hole. You might also find yourself holding a heavy-ass tire/wheel up with one hand as you do this.

Short of LR electrically powering this system (one more thing to break) or re-engineering the attachment design, I don't have any recommendations and just pray that the road or trail gods spare me from a flat.

Carry some tire plugs, can of slime and a small compressor. Use the spare as a last ditch fix.

Ehh, I’m all for carrying plugs with me, but I wouldn’t use the slime in my tires ever unless it was an absolute last resort.

Heard it’s a pain to clean out after.

Preferred the old nut winder method over the hole for winding operation. The jack handle doesnt fit/work well as cannot fold down rear load area seats.
