OK, since we are in monkeywrenching mode... I have been using Mobil 1 Extended Performance / High Mileage 5W-30 on my 2013 since about two years ago, on the recommendation of my indy tech. This to minimize a small leak from the rear seal that was causing me to lose about a quart of 5W-20 oil approximately every 3 months (although I put about 7500 / 8000 miles on my car in those 3 months on average) and would be quite expensive to fix. Two years later my engine still drives great, I am now approaching 200K miles and instead of getting worse, the oil leak has nearly stopped. I must still be leaking a tiny bit of oil as the seal still feels oily to the touch, but with my 7500-mile - about 3 months - oil and filter change interval it barely registers (it must be leaking a couple of ounces between intervals, at most.) I don't recommend this of course as I drive in fairly temperate / hot weather here in So. Cal all the time, but I just wanted to let you know the engine probably won't blow up if you stray from the recommended, overpriced Castrol brew and defect to another good quality, full synthetic oil. Mobil 1 can be found almost everywhere for $5/6 per quart in 5-quart bottles.

Just to spoil everyone's fun, my dealer is currently replacing my timing chain guides under warranty, and all I've ever used since I've owned it (some 38k miles) is Mobil 1. The type of oil I use was never brought up when the repair was approved by the LR CPO warranty.

Awesome!

The four dealerships I've called over the last few days and on many of the forums it is widely agreed that this boutique Land Rover only oil is no better then a high-quality full synthetic. Castrol Extended Performance is what I have used on the last two oil changes . I think most of us do an oil change every five to seven thousand miles and again, everything I have read points to high-quality full synthetic motor oil changed regularly with love will protect your vehicle. The one thing that the Castrol Professional has is an additive that is phosphorescent so it glows with a black light when a mechanic looks for an oil leak. You can get that oil additive from Napa for a few dollars.

Anyway I have some of the Chateau Lafite Rothschild vintage 2018 oil coming!

Most JLR dealers only stock the 0W20 as it's backwards compatible for the older V8 5W20 combo.
