Looking at getting rid of the air suspension. I saw that fox makes resi shocks that are supposed to be direct bolt on. Anyone have them on their LR or just stick to the coilover conversion?

Reduce issues that occur in off-road situations. Prefer mechanical. Also want 2” lift to fit larger tires

You can reprogram the default ride hide to +2" if I'm not mistaken. Most haven't cited issues with using the air system off-road. I'd be concerned about ruining the base ride quality by pulling them out and going full mechanical.

well, what "issues" ...? LOL More likely too much time on the keyboard than "off the road" ;) There are pretty much ZERO "issues" in even the most extensive off road uses.

Guess what... not one steel spring kit yet can provide more effective lift for larger tires. What this means is the air struts actually are the path to the largest tires until a true long travel kit is created which will also require new control arms, 8 of them, in addition to all the other bits. A properly engineered kit could easily cost as much as 1/2 a used lr3 though *****.

If you are SERIOUS, then install the 50mm strut spacers and set neutral ride height to +50mm which will set the struts at factory 0 retaining 100% down and up travel for all the normal driving while actually setting the running ground clearance at +50mm.

I use 34" BFG km2 without any issues at all in full articulations including parking garage lowered functions.

Believe me, I've seriously considered the steel spring struts but it would actually be a set-back from what I have been used to having as my range of clearance and capability.

that probably sounded kinda snarky.... I come by it naturally. I spend a ton of time on the keyboard so no offense meant ;) But I also got put it to use and get dirty.

Haha trust me, if they made a long travel for it I’d be buying that. Currently working on my truck to be converted to full long travel.

so longer control arms, extended axles, etc? I saved my old control arms for such purpose someday. Current suspension parts really are best suited to the air struts. Any of the available struts would massively reduce the off road capability I have gotten spoiled by recently.

Give the strut spacer route some thought. I am rolling 34" km2 and can drive around like in an emergency or parking garage with air totally vented out. The measurement was roughly 8.5" at belly pan, maybe more I forget. That's the same as many crossover suvs like bmw x5, subarus, etc. In lifted mode on level ground the underside of slider is at roughly 18" !

You might also look into a 2-4" body lift. There's an in depth thread somewhere on that from a utah guy who had it done on a sc rrs.

One reason I chose to retain the air system is that a massively lifted vehicle is not at all convenient for actual camping out of it. You can of course but it's way nicer to have the roof and mounted awnings near your head than 2 feet above and hard to deal with. It's nice having the tail gate at low access and also parking in any garage is possible without a rack, many even with the Hannibal rack i have.

you're missing my preference, LLAMS from australia. I have been using for several years now. It's a must-have IMO.
