Cold start of late has sounded worse, dealer thinks it’s normal. Would appreciate others having a listen and tell me if I am imagining this and if it sounds normal to you. 2015 LR4 w 40k miles, otherwise good.

Wife's LR4 SCV6 does not sound like that. Not normal IMO. Find another dealer. If not satisfied, call Land Rover Corporate and complain. Under warranty?

^ Yes under warranty ... for another couple of days. Thank you for the feedback.

Any others confirm?

That does not sound good. My wife has a 2015 SCV6, and her's does not sound at all like that, super quiet other than a heat shield that is vibrating somewhere, which is under warranty and going back to dealer....

That sounds like a stuck valve or a cam issue. Don't drive it...haul it back to the dealer under warranty.

My SCV6 doesn’t sound like that,
It sounds like the tappets.

Also the SCV6 is the same engine is the Jaguar XF so you may want to send it to the Jaguar forums.

What fuel do you use? The manual say 87 will cause issues 91 is ok 95 is premium. 98 is the best of the best but in canada 95 is best

Thanks all. I only use 91, but here in Colorado it is the equivalent of 93 adjusted for lower air density.

The sound does largely go away once warm though it is there in the background. Any thoughts?

No car manufacturer has thought that sounds "normal" since Yugo.

98 is a different octane calculation.

98 is a RON only (Europe) while in North America octane is measured as an average RON+MON/2

98 RON is about 93 RON+MON/2

and yes altitude is a factor. In Calgary and mountains (4000-6000') the octane requirement is reduced so 91 R+M/2 is more than fine. I would imagine in Colorado that 89 is fine.
