This vehicle is the first I've owned with a heated windshield, and I love the feature. What I don't like is the lights dimming briefly when it turns on, while driving. If it's cold enough, it does this on its own, regardless if the button is pressed or not. Anyone know a fix for this? After researching it, i'm pretty sure it's the front heater making the lights dim.

Check your battery.

While on the move I haven't noticed that the heated windshield does any better defogging that a standard setup.

It's an issue with the halogen lights on an LR4. When mine still had halogens and I would be stopped at a light, I could see my headlights fluctuate when I'd turn on various electrical components in the car.

I think the ballast on the xenon lights serves as a capacitor that attenuates the short dip in electrical flow going to the lights.

Fwiw I love the heated windshield. I live in the mountains in CO and ski about once a week. In my conditions the heated windshield stays clear inside and out, much better than a regular one would (or does in my other cars). I have to drive over at least one high MTN pass to get to the resorts. So it's tested in significantly subzero temps weekly.

I just picked my 2013 up from the dealer. It had a bad windshield relay which resulted in a melted fuse. The combination of both resulted in a draw on the battery which resulted in me being stranded far from home. I killed the alternator and battery whilst trying to jump it. It was quite an ordeal. Hopefully it is fixed correctly and won't happen again.

Bill, I can only guess that someone replaced your windshield with an aftermarket brand that was drawing too much power and overloaded the fuse. Or someone put in the wrong amp fuse to support the aftermarket windshield.

As for the battery in an LR4, it will fail faster than any other vehicle you have owned. Watch for warning signs like the clock switching to military time format on its own. I replace mine every 3 years even if it seems fine. I'd also recommend you carry one of these with you to easily jump start it:

I didn't realize non-HID lights were available in the US market. I knew they existed, I just didn't know we got them - I never saw one when I was searching, but I guess I was focusing my attention on the HSE Lux trim so that's probably why.

I didn't really know a halogen version existed, either, until right before I got the keys to mine. I just assumed that a Land Rover from 2012 would have xenons even in the base model, and mine was a mid-level HSE. By the time I realized the CPO LR4 I was buying just had halogens, I had already negotiated my trade-in and gotten a great price from the dealer, so I didn't feel like backing out then.

After a few years of running brighter halogen bulbs in my halogen housings, I just swapped over to HID housings. Easy fix, either way.

I had the same issue, only on the passenger side. Took it in and they fixed it while I waited. They never did say what the problem/fix was.
