We have a 2012 LR4 that's stuck in Normal Height. I checked the codes and also took it to my local LR specialist and they confirmed that it will need to be replaced. The truck only has 40k miles on it, but I guess over the years things dry out and rot so it is what it is.

Our LR4 is an early VIN and falls in the TSB of early AMK compressors.

My question is, if I buy a replacement "new style" AMK compressor, will it fit under the factory cover that is equipped on my 2012? I don't want to leave this thing exposed to the elements, plus the noise dampening by the cover is welcomed.

you're fine to replace it with an "new style" AMK compressor. "new style" refers to the switch from hatchi to AMK compressors. im in the process of replacing my hatchi with an AMK and have to get the new compressor cover(and mounting bracket) only because I currently have a hatchi. eBay actually sells a kit for $288.00 it comes with a AMK style(which means its not AMK brand but has the exact same specs) compressor and a new cover(top and bottom) but because you already have an AMK compressor you dont need to change anything other than the compressor.

Perfect! Thank you for the reply.

Now, where's the best place to get a replacement? Is Arnott the go-to or are there other suppliers that have a better or comparable product? I'm assuming the dealer will just bend me over.

I'd assume Arnott would be the best bet, i've heard great reviews about them and they have pretty good DIY videos that will show you almost step by step directions. I'm going to try the conversion kit on eBay, ill post how it comes out.

Mine just locked itself in Normal Height today, right after exiting a low parking garage while in access height. Guess I should be glad I got 92K out of the original compressor.

I got 168,000 on mine before I got the “only normal height available “ “system cooling” along with a few other messages. Let it sit over night and haven’t had an issue since.... but it’s alway in the back of my mind when I go on long trips. Almost 170 out of a air compressor to me is amazing and I contemplated replacing it with another hatchi but figured I wouldn’t get that lucky again so am going to AMK

I haven't seen one for the AMK, but I did buy one for my Hitachi to try. It contained new desiccant, filters, piston ring, sleeve etc. After dismantling the Hitachi, it actually looked good on the inside with minimal wear. The desiccant beads were a different color. Ultimately the rebuild kit failed to fix the problem. I suspect it was the thermal overload switch in the Hitachi that was throwing the fault.

Bad compressor go on 2010 LR4. Beware after market compressors unless it comes with new cover. Arnot swore it would work, lots and lots of calls...cover didn’t fit and my ex mechanic tried to return to me with no cover. Ended up at dealer where you get factory original. Had to fight with ex mechanic to get my $1400 back.
