I bought mine with an ARB bumper already attached. I like it, but it’s missing key recovery points in its design. They rely on the factory tow eye which is mostly ok, but with the abundance of mud and ruts here in the southeast, that’s the first thing that gets buried.

I’m looking to add some shackles to the front up higher on the bumper. My front sensors don’t work, so I’m not afraid to cover them up or remove them.
So far, if found and considered these photos. Any other ideas?

I'm curious if the LR4 ARB bumper doesn't have recovery points for a reason, as the ARB bumper I had on my Land Cruiser certainly had recovery points.

Does the winch on the ARB mount to the bumper or to the frame of the LR4?

The winch mounts feet forward to a plate on the bumper.
Seems like ARB just dropped them from a lot of their bumpers over time.

The one thing to look for if you add the recovery points is make sure you have a kit that comes with a backing plate. I did add them to my D2 with a ARB and kept everything in line with the area where it mounts to the frame. The one downside to having a airbag compliant bull bar is that the mounting area is the weak point. It has the potential to twist when under load. I have seen on Dweb where people weld tabs over the arb mount point to the frame for additional strength.
As for my LR4 I am looking at either the ARB or TR. I am still on the fence about it and just might leave it stock since it is the family hauler.

Agree with the above sentiment on "in-line", particularly at the flange of the crush cans.

I would only feel comfortable in a recovery bridle approach, using two mounted recovery points if relying on the bumper's skin (with back plates of course).

Yeah, the more I think about it and measure the bumper, the more I’m leaning toward the third photo option as the rest are just too big to fit anywhere with some structure.

I may just forget about them and carry some extra straps to wrap around the bumper in the event.

How does the bumper attach?

On the Tactical Rover version, the winch tray bolts to the frame, and then the bumper bolts to the winch tray.

A common upgrade is replace the bolts that Tactical Rover's supplies with two "swivel hoists" that then bolt the bumper to the winch tray, but also serve as recovery points.

I don't know the ARB setup, so just throwing that out there in case it helps.

Something along the lines of these are what I am referring to. They are available in a ton of sizes and load ratings.

The ARB has winch mout to bumper and bumper to frame. I looked at those, and didn’t think that a single bolt would be enough surface area to be pulling on the ARB skin. Plus, I don’t know enough to find a retaining clip to secure the ring to protect the bumper.

And black oxide surface rusts something awful, so paint or powder coat would be needed.

You got that last part correct. I just hit mine with some black Krylon to prevent the rust. I have seen some guys screw a retaining clip underneath to hold the ring in place, but mine just dangle in the wind.

avslash, do you have the ARB bumper? The shop said that there wasn’t enough structure and space to use anything they had. That means if I want em, I’ll have to use those hoist ring types. I’m interested is photos of what you have.
