I searched for this subject, but got no results...
Atlantic British is advertising this product (Item: ATFCKWFL). Has anyone gone this route? What is the value of this vs conventional approaches?

I used the filter conversion kit from them. Very satisfied and noticed smother shifting

OK, well I understand that the standard procedure for changing tranny fluid, etc., can be quite expensive, if done the conventional way. I just don't understand this different method; is it as effective, safe, etc.???

it is 100% effective and safe. it allows much easier maintenance next time around. i have the kit for next time it's due. even my service guy likes it but they have to install the dealer parts if you have them do the job.

on mine i replaced all the hex key bolts with hex nut head bolts because they are actually easier to get more tools onto and deal with. a few of the bolts, on the heat shield, are easy either way but a few others are a huge PITA to access with an allen wrench. i think they are M4 or 5 but i don't recall for sure.

and i'm only talking about the heat shield bolts here. the pan cover has it's own that are more critically to be the correct bolts and torque.

The most tricky thing with trans fluid flush, is getting the volume right and running it or having hot or something. i haven't done that job yet. watch the AB video a few times.

It's good to know that there is a better alternative.
I'll check out the AB video, maybe even talk to someone over there.
I've had a tech from the past tell me that unless you have problems with the tranny, it requires no service. If I needed it done, the cost was going to be quite high, if I recall...

Only problem was that the pan was leaking fluid. Did noticed hard shift. I'm second owner, bought truck with 167k miles. Way over due in maintenance

I did it myself using the conversion with the separate filter. Hacksawed off the old filter neck, etc. Heat shield bolts were a big PITA, so was sawing off the filter neck. After all is said and done, it was a big sense of accomplishment! Leaks can sometimes come from the back top of transmission where there is a racket ball sized plug/collar that surrounds a snarl of wires going into transmission. It was too hard to get to for me to replace it though.

The kit surprises you saying you need a tap to ream out all the cover holes, but comes with new bolts. The original bolts are longer and there is crud in the upper reaches of each bolt hole. Reaming the hole with the tap was well worth the effort vs. using the new bolt to do the work. If you watch the video, pay close attention to seating the new filter neck. Re-filling the transmission is also PITA, due to hot catalytic converter waiting to burn your hands, wrist or arm. Put some kind of heat shield over it before filling and putting back the plug, another ordeal.

I installed the kit on my LR4 and am happy with it.

No need to hacksaw the old one. Once it is loose, give the old pan a sharp tug towards the passenger side and it will snap off cleanly.

While you are in there I also recommend replacing the 4 mechatronic sleeves and the bridge. They are only about 40.00 and only require about 12 more bolts to access them. Supposedly their degradation over time is associated with transmission failure.

If you do this, pull the old connection sleeve before you drop the mechatronic unit, reset the mechatronic unit before installing your new sleeve. Ask me how I learned this order of operations...
