Save 5K? Where are you getting that? Even using your own numbers, you'll have to do some of the same things regardless, and you're not even considering the cost of the Atturos.

1281 GBP is around $1,670 USD. EDIT: I guess you must be in Canada. Regardless, your logic is off.

The BF Goodrich tire is night and day better than the Atturos. That said, you can find cheaper tires than the BFG that will still be better than the stock size Atturos. Just so long as it's an E-rated tire, you're well ahead of the Atturos.

You can reuse your current sensors.

You'll have to do balancing no matter what tire you buy.

The camber thing is questionable. But you should get a lifetime alignment package from some shop regardless of any tire/wheel decision you make.

I really cant figure how to say this more simple but I will try.

1. I go online and buy 19" Atturo tyres from the USA @$1400cdn and get them dropped of at a pick up point in Montana, I get them fitted at the same time at a tyre shop close to the shop where i picked the tyres up. I will get them balanced. I will stay for a weekend of 4x4 in the mountains of Montana
1a. I go to Canadian Tire and buy and get fitted for $1200 the Wrangler Duratec for $1200 Cdn (Go to 3)
2. by driving the Atturo or the duratrec they will be night and day between the 4 season or the winter tyres I currently have.
3. I drive home.
4. I drive for the rest of 2019 up to spring (May 2020) with the Atturos or Duratec
5. Whilst i'm doing (4) I'm saving money to get the KO2 and competitive
6. in 2020 I will make the change over.
7. if I save 11K USD over this period I will buy the wheels, tyres and the tacticalrover front, rear bumpers with tyre, jerrycan mount, sliders and warn winch. Then get them all fitted in Portland Oregon over a 5 day fitment.

I think this is more clear. It will take about 6-8 months to save 5k

yeah he was saying while saves the money up, not somehow paying that much less. i read it too quickly at first too.

In November and December when I went to our local 4x4 parks during the Chinook winds when we had no snow but muddy and icy conditions the winter tyres I have have no traction even aired down to the lowest recommendations by land rover of 15PSI (SAND) https://www.landrover.com/Images/Land_Rover_Off_Road_Driving_Guide_tcm281-255157.pdf

On Several occasions where I wouldn't have had any concerns when driving my Defender 110. 130 or 90 I was getting stuck. Just last week i got stuck in drift crusty snow when it wasn't even catching on the bottom of the vehicle.

This Spring and summer coming My wife and I are driving from Calgary, Alberta staying off of tarmac or concrete roads as much as possible to the MOAB playing there for a week then to Death Valley, Playing there a week then going up to BC taking only forestry ,branch, trunk and supply roads travel up to north BC along the mountain ridges then back down the Alberta side doing the same back to Calgary (11 days) in total 25 days of banked holidays. Due to the terrain i don't want to use my All season tyres I got with the vehicle that I haven't used. I don't wan to use my winter tyres.
I would rather sell all 5 of my new 4 season tyres but keep the rims, (about $1K) sell the 4 winter tyres and rims next winter, Put 5 new Duratrec or Atturo tyres on the 5 rims and play all year and put about 50k on them by next summer which is about 70% wear.

Reference Montana and Portland i live in Calgary Alberta but the nearest ship to US address and pick up is in Montana, That is where I was going to pick up the tyres. TacticalRover4x4 has a authorised fitter in Portland that has figured out a way to keep the 360 Cameras, Driving sensors and distance control of my 2016 LR4 with the front and rear bumpers Tactical rover provides. So drive to US pick up tyres, get them fitted, play in the mountains on the way to Portland, get the hardware fitted, then come back with my DIY roof rack filled with all the take off parts.
Not Shipping the bumpers to Canada due to cost (1.2k shipping to get over the border to my house)

Well ok then, I understand now. You may want to consider the Utah, OR or WA "Backcountry Discovery Routes" which are as much gravel as possible north-south.

I have worked with the Portland shop Columbia Roving but who is the one you're referring to for the work? Sounds like an expensive visit...

I have worked with the Portland shop Columbia Roving but who is the one you're referring to for the work? Sounds like an expensive visit...

Hi! Just saw this thread come by and thought I'd share my experience with those Atturos on my LR4;

I waved goodbye to the Atturo tires last October, & posted them back to Discount Tires after 11500 miles in six months with them. Initially, they droned pretty loudly as I had expected on the LR4 for MTs but I was fine with that, here's our experience:

On road dry performance was average, better than expected for a budget MT tire, but it didn't take much to get them to squeal, but to be expected!

On wet roads, these tires were horrible, had to tip-toe on tight corners as understeer was to easily achieved!

Gravel - a ton of fun! Very progressive when drifting through dry trails

Rocks - good grip, take it slow and the trail blades will stick and go

Mud - the tires self cleared successfully and kept going

Snow - not so impressed, the sipes are few and far between and not particularly deep. Had to power our way out of some tricky scenarios

Durability - pretty terrible; tread was down from 17/32 (13.5mm) to 10/32 (8mm) in just 11,500 miles. Tires were evenly worn, which is good as I immediately had the LR4 aligned after fitting these tires. A lot of cuts on the leading edge of the tread blocks too with some chunking.

Reliability - main reason for the refund/exchange. In just 6000 miles, the belt had broken on one tire, by 11500 another had gone too, not attributable to any visible outside damage.

All replaced with a set of GoodYear Wrangler Adventure with Kevlar in a size larger. So far, the wet road performance is incredible, road noise is absolutely gone, and it's a much lighter wheel considering the increase in size (Atturo Trail Blade 255/55/19 44llbs vs GoodYear Wrangler Adventure 255/60/19 41lbs). Had them in snow: night and day compared to the Atturos, far more bite and predictable, and noticed that the compound was still pliable when it was -10C. Had them off road; the Wranglers were even better on the rocks! As for plodding through mud, absolutely no worse off compared to the MTs, but then we haven't had too much of a challenge recently.

The Wranglers wear rate are far superior compared to the Atturos, in 7000 miles since the switch (more than half the distance I covered in the MTs), the Atturos were visibly losing tread, Wrangler, you'd have to measure it's loss with a caliper.

The Wranglers were X2.5 the price of the Atturos, I was fine to compromise with the MT noise, sacrifice some of on road ability and enjoy the initial savings, but when comes to reliability, and durability, forget them - I'm just glad Discount Tyres came through and took back the Atturos!

Hi David,

I've been looking for Mud tyres as there are a lot of off-road and 4x4 tracks around where I live, and I am looking at hammering the mountain forestry tracks, support roads and trunk roads around BC this year so these tyres will be needed. If was going to go with an AT I would go with the 255/60/R19 WRANGLER ALL-TERRAIN ADVENTURE WITH KEVLAR, its a 60 and not a 55 which is good and wont rub, I really wanted a mud tyre and that is why I am glad i found the Atturo. I have 9 wheels 4 Winter 5 Summer and I am thinking of getting all 9 at the same time when I come to the states as it will save almost the same price in the tyres as it is in shipping and packaging.
