Is a d5 a great deal right now?

i am seeing local 2017 diesel HSEs for around 43k with a CPO and only 5k miles. This sounds like a steal. Why is the price so low?

Guessing it was used as a service loaner, that explains the 5K miles. Pretty sad that the D5 replaced Discovery Sports as the typical service loaner.

My local dealer has a new d5, '17, full lock package, 11K below retail. I'm sure they would take less. They have tons of inventory.

Sales have been bad around the world and inventory is high. Jaguar Land Rover Automotive is supposed to be approaching bankruptcy. Jaguar is cutting 10% of its workforce (4500 not sure if just in the UK or globally.) China sales are supposedly down 40% and there are only a handful of models that are moving well and they didn't include the D5.

I’ll look up the page later when I get home. On paper the diesel D5 looks amazing. But I guess it shows that the “soul” of the vehicle matters

I was desperate to find a diesel LR4 6 years ago. It was like Bigfoot or something. Think someone said later they never shipped any to NA.

link the guy posted shows internet price 57k, twin trans but no ventilated seat package and i'm like, why bother LOL

Easy answer is NO, NOW, is not a "good" time to get a "deal". 2 yrs from now will be an ok time maybe especially if we get a little recession type world market action. In 08/09 there were awesome deals on new cars.

I know because I got almost 20% off my rare new Audi S4 mt6 with only delivery miles, nobody else had driven it except off the boat/truck. There were only 2 in the PNW but still negotiated big % and essentially no interest loan. A year later I almost bought a new red RS4 for -$20,000 off sticker then my GF said "W - T - F" ! and I pulled the deal LOL ;) Recessions are times to have $ waiting....

Meanwhile, I just read this article about Fiat/Chrysler investing $4.5 billion in a new Jeep plant. Need I point out the differences in design philosophies as each maker's models have evolved?

For those who didn’t catch it ASPW talks about what LR should do about the defender and I think it’s somewhat in answer to the lack of demand for the D5.

I love this guy. I don't agree with everything he says but he plants his flag and stands by it, doesn't he? I also like his entertaining style of delivery.

IMO LR lost their cache amongst the soccer mom crowd with D5.

With the previous generations, a soccer mom could buy one and stand out a bit from the crowd of other suburban mom's in the carpool line and feel cool about it.

My wife fits squarely in that demographic. I doubt she ever drove her LR4 down a gravel road, but she loved that truck when it was her daily driver.

I took over the LR4 for recreational use, which put her back in the market for literally any suv with a 3rd row of seats that she wanted to buy. She took one look at the D5 and gave it an unequivocal NO. She ended up with a Mercedes GL something.

I think LR didn't understand their target market, and what design elements of their product appealed to that market. The D5 might be a better, more capable SUV than the previous generations, but it looks like a Ford Explorer. Suburban moms don't care about the capabilities of the vehicle, they care about how it looks and how they and other moms perceive themselves in it.
