Is a d5 a great deal right now?

The D5 rear just looks awkward, striking but awkward. If it was just looks I could perhaps get by it but the kicker for me is they lost all functionality of the split gate to boot. See what I did there? lol

I agree with previous posts, which is why we have both and 08 RR and an 08 LR3, best of both worlds. It took until just now (and the timing chain issues of the 10-12 RR) that my wife is "ok" looking at newer RR's. Still when it snows, she takes my LR3 because she feels safer in it....

An explorer can at least look passable in some trims. Uninspired and bland, but at least not outwardly offensive. There's no saving that d5's dunky ass.

and the literally ******** design of the hatch shape rendering the roofline useless for anything long.

Even next to a case of chlamydia they are unappealing. I see one every day on campus at work and I swear it's one of the only vehicles I've ever encountered that seems to get uglier every day. Hell, even the Pontiac Aztek started to become tolerable once the shock wore off. Not these ugly ass d5s.
Whoa invoking Aztek. That's Pinto and Gremlin territory.

Meanwhile, I just read this article about Fiat/Chrysler investing $4.5 billion in a new Jeep plant. Need I point out the differences in design philosophies as each maker's models have evolved?

For all the disrespect Fiat gets they're doing well. Compare them to Ford announcing losses.
I bought a new Durango 4 or 5 months before my LR4 and I still like that thing. Frame design is Mercedes from the Daimler Chrysler days. Very smooth ride. Reminded me of late 80s Cadillacs without the boat feel. Half the price and had the LR4 beat in comfort. The seats are just way better. Rear reclining 2nd row. And can read text messages to me. That's essentially a Grand Cherokee with less ground clearance. Overall it's no comparison but for the money... In business you can always tell who's hungrier and who's waiting to retire or go under.

Yep, meant no disrespect to Fiat/Chrysler, in fact, the opposite. I was pointing out that with Jeep they have managed to maintain the look/feel/heritage of the brand and still keep pumping out the sales. I agree they jam a lot of content into their cars. I've had 4 Jeeps and the big Chrysler 300C sedan and when comparing model year to model year, all of the new ones ran circles around the various Rovers I've owned when it came to tech in particular.

Yet we still love our Rovers even when the current regime does us dirty!

Nah I understood you. I was in agreement. I wasn't optimistic about Fiat early on but that's changed. Even the new Ram trucks are looking better. I've owned a Cherokee and Grand Cherokee and was happy with both. Hopefully the new Wrangler and Bronco will help LR figure out their design issues. Removing individual style from Discos is just bad business and coming from an iconic upscale brand it doesn't seem well thought out. Maybe desperation has fried some minds over there.

I still love Rovers too just older models and Defenders. I don't think I'll like the new aerodynamic Defenders but I'll still be a Rover fan. At this rate I'd buy a new F-Pace before a new Rover. I plan on keeping this D4 forever. I suspect when they gain some clarity they'll follow the US manufacturer trend and return the classic styling we love.

Back when the LR4's were selling very slowly (2011-2013), there were a lot of Demo's for sale just like these 18 D5's. In fact my local dealer almost never had a new one in stock, but always had 2-3 "used demos" with 1k-3k miles and the CPO extended warranty. I think they figured out it was a better way to move the vehicles....Seems like the D5 is falling into this trend...
