About two months ago, I installed a set of Osram Xenarc 66340 CBB lamps that I bought at the Retrofit Source. Before someone jumps on me, they are NOT 7000K on the Kelvin scale as they say on the box. More like 5000K. They are just brighter than the previous Osram CBI version. This is from the Retrofit Resource LUX testing: CBB = 460 Lux, CBH = 415 Lux, CBI = 340 Lux, Standard = 315 Lux. They are working great in the stock adaptive housings on my 2013 LR4. As far as not being as bright as the LR3 housings.... I don't care!!!

No comparison. My wife's LR4 lights are 100 times better than my LR3's, although I use just regular $20 H7 bulbs... I do have a few extra lumens on to compensate though

OP is asking about upgrading the stock HIDs not comapring to the halogens though. Yes the LR4 HIDS are better than halogen but the LR3 HID>LR4 HID. Can we make the LR4 HID better?

Forgive the dumb question... but what exactly makes the LR3 HID setup better than LR4 HID? Bulbs? Reflectors/projectors? Something else? Seems odd that the newer lights would perform worse than the older ones.

There was a thread here somewhere that alluded to that fact. The LR3 housings were made by Bosch while the LR4 were cheaper Valeos. When they redesigned the front end from the 3 to the 4 perhaps that compromised the ideal headlight shape. The lights on the 4 are "sleeker". Anyhow all I know is that with fresh HIDs bulbs in both my LR3 and LR4 the 3 throws better light in low beam. My LR4 has the vision assist pack so auto high beams. That helps but the low beams themselves are not up to what the LR3 is.
