I would buy that whether or not it was integrated with a modified cap or just came as the wire with some kind of grip or handle. Just keep it with the oil change supplies in my garage. I bet it would sell like hotcakes.

Yep.

Could probably even store it under the hood.

Somebody that maths figure this out!

Perfect.

Would complex calculations even be required to make this useful? Full drain (from bottom of engine), fill with specified volume of oil, let everything settle, measure, and mark. Or something along those lines. Think of it this way-- would that be any less accurate than the e-gauge is now? (not that this is the standard to shoot for)

Ed, congrats on the find...that is a beautiful ride!

I just want to share my experience buying '12 LR4 that helped me, and hopefully someone else: I couldn't find an LR4 that I was completely happy with at a dealer, so I expanded my search across the US to individual sellers. Found one several states away, asked seller to drop LR4 off at LR dealer to do a full pre-owned inspection in which I paid for everything (~$250). The dealer called and spoke only to me (as I was the paying customer and I informed of what I was doing) and gave me great insight into everything and even sent me a few pics. I flew out, picked it up, and drove home. Great experience and service rep's insight was spot on.
