Hi everyone. I found this forum because I want to try to get away from all the Internet conjecture and get real world advice from guys and girls out in the trenches. I am looking at a 2015 range rover sport that is for sale at a local Ford dealership. My closest land rover dealer and service center is two hours away. Through googling I see that these vehicles can be a nightmare on maintenance cost and can be unreliable mechanically speaking. I wanted to come here and find out from the actual people driving them and living with them every day if that is the case and should I just skip this one or should I try and pull the trigger on it. I’ve included the link so you can see the specifics thanks all in advance. https://www.northsidefordlincoln.c...er+Sport-4132f4b80a0e0adf27a25a30878e6333.htm

First, welcome to the forum. Let me say this after owning 2 Land Rover Discovery's and a Jaguar XF, the Jaguar and Rovers are basically the same just one is car the other SUV.

The can all be the best thing you have owned or the worst, it really depends on how well it was maintained before you bought it. Call the local LR service with the VIN, tell them you are looking at it and see if they can get the service history for you. If nothing stands out as bad, it may be a wonderful vehicle. Keeping in mind that unless when this was ordered it had every option available installed it will be less equipped than a used Economy car from Kia. Now I love rovers and Jags, so please understand as far as maintenance goes if you go to any forum and ask about issues every manufacture out there will have a bunch of people saying how expensive they are to maintain and that they are lemons.

**** through the issues and 90% of the time it is 5% of the people complaining about the same little issues.

The truth is Range Rovers and Range Rover Sports made since 2010, some might say 2012 have generally gotten more reliable. Owners have had trouble with the newer dual screen models; mostly due to firmware/software. The vehicles' power-trains are pretty solid and well made. All Direct Injection engines experience some level of carbon build-up, which can be mitigated somewhat by using low volatility (NOACK below 7) engine oil, quality high octane fuel with and occasional BG 44K fuel treatment added every month or every other fill-up depending on how you drive. Depending on how long you own the Range Rover Sport, the intake valves may eventually require chemical cleaning or walnut shell blasting to remove carbon deposits. Water Pumps eventually need to be replaced, and things sometimes just wear-out or break.

As Joey stated above, maintenance is key; actually servicing the vehicle per the maintenance schedule using quality parts and fluids. Plan on replacing air bag suspension components as the vehicle gets toward 100,000 miles (front bags usually go first). If you do not get a Land Rover Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) warranty, plan on having an annual maintenance and repairs fund. There are many expensive modules and components and most are not inexpensive. I warn against purchasing a third party warranty as most are rip-offs.

Get a pre-purchase inspection from a vetted Land Rover mechanic and go in with your eyes open to the benefits and costs. You will not be disappointed, unless maybe you really want a 5.0 V8 or SuperCharged V8 (I see you are looking at a V6 SC). No one ever regrets getting the V8!
