I am have the same issue on a 2012 LR4. Started happening 1 week after a new battery was installed. Took it back, was told it had thrown P0087 code. Low pressure in rail. We had new high pressure pumps installed. It drove good for a few days then the RESTRICTED PERFORMANCE display came on along with P2279 intake leak. No leak was found, code was cleared. Hard reset on ECU was performed. Vehicle just shuts off whenever it feels like doing so. No real pattern. So, shop suggested tank pump. We have replaced both high pressure pumps, tank pump, MAF sensors, crank sensor, air filters, fuel filter on top of tank, cleaned throttle body, ran induction cleaner service thru injectors, new relays, oil change, new battery, new LR oem gas cap and it still shuts off. Mostly on a slow roll backing out of garage. Yet, it could be at idle and just turn off. All electronics stay on. We have to push on/off button in order to shut car electronics off. Yet, like others have stated, it starts right up and runs great. No misfire, no stumble, no warning. Does not store a code. Only codes that were stored and cleared were P0087,P2279. The other day dash displayed thst the gas cap was loose. It has a new gas cap. Fuel pressure per scanner reads 650 at idle and 2150 avg going down the road. Any help would be most appreciated. Thank you

My LR3 still occasionally does the same thing--I know this is going to sound weird--but lets face it--Rovers have weird issues--if I drive to the end of my block really slow--that's when the reduce engine performance message will come on (and not every time)--and then if I am pulling into a parking space slowly after the message came on--the engine will shut off--starts right back up--and no other issues--but if I drive a bit faster--like 25 instead of 10---the message never seems to come on--and there are no other issues--tired of taking the vehicle in so I'm just living with the problem! As above--any thoughts--I'm all ears?

That is exactly how our LR4 conducts itself. On a slow incline, forget it. Quick right turns, forget it. Last night we installed another new battery just for kicks. Nope. It did idle for about half an hour before engine shut off. No codes. Started back up like it never had and issue. Then it shut off and threw code P0087 as a stored code and P2279 as a pending code. Same as when we started whole fiasco. Wife is out car shopping and I will be stuck with a big boat anchor. Atleast it is a nice looking boat anchor. I do not trust it 1 bit in the city. Country, tractors moving from farm to farm type driving, ok maybe.

@rs7trout did you ever actually replace the MAF Sensor?

Change it, clean your throttle body, verify that your thermostat is good ...and see what happens.

New MAF sensors. Throttle body has been removed and cleaned. Temp on scanner is avg 195. Does not use coolant. Maybe maybe maybe requires half a quart to a quart of oil every few months. Underneath is super clean. Crazy that there are so many posts about this particular situation and little to no real resolution. We, as in most all other "stalling" cases, have gone thru the steps as far as whatever diagnostic approach one can take towards a remedy. We have spent the coin on the parts and labor only to be back at square one as if we never started. So P0087 doesn't really mean much. The scanner reads that the rail has pressure even at time of shutdown. The fuel module reads 14.1 volts while driving and at shutdown. We used Bosch pumps up front and VDO pump and filter in rear. Often at times Navigation screen does display "SPECIAL PROGRAMS OFF". Last night we got the RESTRICTED PERFORMANCE display on dash along with SERVICE REQUIRED. Oil was changed when two high pressure pumps were changed. So at the beginning of this month.

I understand your frustration, @stl8grey. Since yours is an LR4, I don't know enough about that powerplant and components to give meaningful feedback. For the OP, since he never tried the MAF, it's still the best place to start and I hope that works for him.

It is the 2012 v8 375hp 5.0. I owned an LR3 and traded it in for this one back in 2012. The LR3 had stalled in traffic at that time. The estimate for that "fuel pump code" diagnoses was in the $3k range so right then and there we traded it in for the new 2012. So, 7 years later here we are again. Difference is this one is paid in full. We are probably going to get a '13 or '14 LR4 V8 and use this immaculate broke HSE staller as a farm type vehicle.

Well codes showed crank sensor fault which was replaced and a week later same thing happened--code went on reduced engine performance---once stopped and restarted code went off and then a couple of days later while coming to a stop(at under 5MPH) the engine shut off again---restarted fine and for the last few days no codes and everything working as normal--

obviously some gremlin in the works--any other ideas if it didn't show up in code the first time around??

thanks
Ron

Had a similar issue. For me it was a dirty throttle body. Easy fix. Use tb cleaner and toothbrush (especially where tb pivots). Doesn’t take much dirt/carbon buildup to cause an issue.
