Hi guys sorry for not getting back. Took the car out for its first trip from Seattle -> Oregon -> Twin Falls -> Moab and back.

I think over all it's maybe 100 pounds I should weight it to figure out but it seems decently heavy. I was wondering if there is anything I need to do to deal with the extra weight in the back?

I left the 3rd row of seats in my wife wants to have the ability to take 7 around if needed. It only takes about 10 minutes to take the whole box out.

Some things I figured out from my first trip are that with the way that I extended the spare tire holder dust will come through as the cap is no longer on top. Thinking about drilling a whole in the plastic cover to give it a better seal so that doesn't happen when on dirt roads.

Handles
Slides For the slides I went the cheaper longest cheapest option I could find. Whats weird about slides is 28 inch you can get for $26 dollars but 30 inch is around 100. I would have liked to get the ones that had locks in them but didn't have the time to wait or the budget.

I only took the car off road a little by balanced rock ID, just did a simple trail I need a good amount of gear before I would feel comfortable doing anything super serious. Mainly I want tires and to rock sliders.

Nice call on the Exped Megamat Duo!

Most comfortable camping mattress of all time. I have one and love it. Have used it a number of times in the Rover and it fits perfectly, no? I even went and bought a skinny one for solo trips with a lot of gear or when I want to sleep inside the truck with my skis before a powder day to get first tracks.

Nicely done on the bespoke drawer system...

Yeah the exped megamat duo single size looks like it was built for the car. Fits perfectly and is unbelievably comfy. I felt like I slept better on it then at home. But then again I didn’t have to go to work so probably had something to do with it!

I’m pretty stoked to be able to camp in the winter, and not have to drive 2 hours one way every time I want to go skiing in WA. That was something I wanted to make sure that I could put my ski gear under the bed in winter. I think the solution will work well :)

Love the setup and looking do to something like this with my 2011 LR4. How much did it cost to make it?

Cheers!

Hello everyone,

For the drawer system I didn’t add up the total for material, but my estimation is around 300 - 400 dollars. So not very expensive in my opinion. If I got more expensive slides it could have cost around 200 dollars or more. Much cheaper the drifta drawers and much better the front runners.

for the pop up hinge: 2pcs Folding Lift up Top Coffee Table Lifting Frame Desk Mechanism Hardware Fitting Hinge Spring Standing Rack Hinge Rack Bracket (Gas Hydraulic) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075VRV5HG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_pxBoFbP83T7BV

I also got a private message about what I would do differently, and around 1 year of using it I don’t think I would change anything. I did recently add a fridge. Maybe adding water behind the larger drawer would be nice, but I need all that space for climbing gear.

I also got a xlifter which is the best. Auto leveling is amazing when you’re sleeping in the back of the car.
