Long story short...

06 LR3 HSE. Radio volume works 20% of the time. Comes on randomly. When it's not working, it's almost like the radio doesn't even recognize the knob - it doesn't say "Audio Volume" or show any of the volume numbers like when it's working.

Pooling water in passenger footwell. I have replaced passenger sunroof drain, warped windshield cowl and blew out both AC drains. It's drying out slowly.

Question...could the water be affecting my intermittent volume issue or does that sound amp or software related?

Maybe the humidity is causing it. You Could remove the central dashboard and put the radio out to dry it.

When I have radio problems, (usually after replacing a battery or starter etc that involves disconnecting the battery, I do what is called a Hard Reset as below. It costs nothing; hurts nothing and sometimes works. It is also a stand up clean hands sometimes fix - and yes, it has resolved the radio has no volume, no sound, but seems powered concern.

Let us know if the Hard Reset does work in your situation.

Hard Reset Instructions

In brief, to start the hard-reset process, open the hood but close all doors and let your 3 go to sleep - no radio display etc and no key in the ignition. This will take a couple of minutes and do not open any doors until the reset is completed. (I find that it is often a good idea to have the driver’s door window rolled down and the key in one’s pocket whenever fooling about the vehicle.)

Also, when I play with a car battery, I remove any rings I have from my fingers, also my watch. Have the car keys in your pocket.

Disconnect the ground battery terminal from the main starting battery.
Disconnect the positive battery terminal from the main starting battery.

The reason for this order is if a wrench or loose battery cable ends grounds to the body, no arcing or other bad things happen.

(I assume that you only have one battery in your 3. If not, disconnect the others as well and leave them disconnected until after all is done.) I have the Traxide dual battery system installed.

Connect the negative cable end to the positive cable end. (NOT to the battery.) To do this, you will need a short length, (a foot or so), of light gauge, (14 to 18 gauge AWG, insulated stranded copper), wire to span between the battery cable ends as there is not enough slack in the positive and negative battery cables for the ends to be able to touch each other.

Hold all together for about a minute or more, (suggest at least two minutes), as you are discharging memory modules within the engine computer and elsewhere. Then it is suggested you then just let all sit disconnected for say ten minutes, (minimum five minutes), prior to commencing to put the battery cable ends back on the battery posts per the following order.

Reattach positive terminal to the main starting battery positive post.

Reattach negative terminal to the main starting battery negative post.

Start engine and hopefully none or at least fewer warning lights and the radio when turned on plays music rather than being silent.
Reset time on the radio - note that the station presets are still there as not everything is erased. Nothing much else needs resetting either.

You can also now connect up the other batteries if you have a multiple battery setup.

My radio stopped working right after a major rain storm that also left the passenger foot-well wet. I've never been able to fix the radio (do smell a burning smell and have parasitic power drain when I leave the fuse in); but, in my case, the water intrusion was an easy fix.

I found the rubber elbows/******* on the end of the sunroof drains on both sides of the vehicle had rotted and were leaking water into the interior. Bought the parts, which come with the drain tube as well, at a local land rover dealer for about $14 each. I think the rear were cheaper so I bought those as all I needed were the elbows/******* off the end. The one on the passenger side is a little more difficult to access being behind the fuse panel; but, they have a built in grommet and the ****** just pops through the sidewall of the vehicle.

Any chance you have a photo of where the ****** is? I removed the fuse panel and still couldn't find it. I got so frustrated that I just drilled (3) 1/4" holes through the floor board and in the wire channel. If you do that, go from the underside because you never know where they ran the wire loom.

Lets get back to the Radio problem, I had the same sun roof leak, I fixed my with new ******* (it was not fun) only took a couple hours. Radio went from working intermittent to now not working at all. I am experiencing the no volume issue. I have pulled the passenger front sent and have the wires running along the door frame exposed. Can anyone give me some trouble shooting tips where to start to diagnose if its a wire, the amp, or the head unit.

I recently had this problem. It's the AC condensation drain that's plugged. It's an easy fix if you know how to get to it and you have a compressor you can blow air through it. However, I ended up having my mechanic do it quickly while he was fixing my brakes.
