Anyone try the ceramic brembo pads that rockauto offers?

Brakes are a crucial part of these heavy vehicles. The stopping power required is ridiculous, but there are many brands that make great pads. Ferodo, Brembo, EBC, Hawk Performance, and StopTech are just a few that I trust. I have an extra set of NIB unopened EBC Orange pads for my '11 LR4 5.0L V8. Google it and PM me if you're interested.

Pads on. First lap around the block. They do not have the initial bite of the Federos I took off. Push your foot into the pedal a bit and there is some strength. I'll let them bed in before passing judgement but for now I would say they are a little wooden. I also flushed the entire system with Pentosin Dot4 LV (low viscosity). I don't know if the LV contributes to the feel or not.

Update: A few more miles and the pads are bedding in. More feel and stopping power all around. For daily driver (no track lol) they will be fine. Just noticed I need rotors and pads on the back. The rear rotors are original (9 years and 110k miles). Not bad.

So i did purchase the ceramics as well and had the same experience where when new the brake pedal felt spongy and not as responsive as before with the metallic pads. After a while they bedded in and i felt that they were pretty awesome. However my brother who rarely drives my LR4 drove it one day a few months after the brake job and commented how the brakes felt like they needed to be done. I then figured the brakes still sucked, but i got used to their performance which is why mentally i thought they were awesome. Anyways i ended up buying yellowstuff EBC metallic pads and i removed the brembo pads and stuck it back in the box and returned it. I got a full refund for them by the way. Rockauto is very accommodating. Now that i have the yellowstuff installed it's truly a night and day difference. I just tap on the pedal and the braking brunt is literally right there. There's no need to sink your foot into the pedal. There is a hell of a lot of brake dust though, but honestly i don't mind. These pads i figure would be wearing my disks more than the ceramics would as well, but honestly that's a small price to pay. This truck stops on a dime.

Good to hear. How do they compare to OEM?

i cant cope with brake dust in this day and age. i dont know much about oem suppliers for brake pads but i dont feel like i see obnoxious amounts of brake dust on Bmws, MBs, etc so does anyone know who supplies those manufactures with pads?

The ebc yellowstuff are definitely an upgrade over the OEM stuff. In fact, during heavy braking and high heat events, these brakes perform even better. When hot they really do bite. Other pads decrease in efficiency when hot.

It's personal preference too at some point. I don't like pads with an excessive initial bite. I prefer a softer initial bite that gets stronger the more I push. I find this type of pads much easier to modulate in day to day driving. As long as the ultimate braking performance is not affected then all is ok. I would like to see some 60-0 stops on a LR4 comparing pads to get some real numbers.
