FIRST POST ALERT: Love the info in this thread!

Can't seem to find how much the compomotives weigh. Anyone know?

Tuffants are 39lbs and I'm little worried about the extra unsprung steel affecting ride quality. Getting as close as ever pulling the trigger on some tuffants and 265/60 KO2s.

Tipping point was that I just drove the Mojave Trail last weekend and got a flat on one my street tires about an hour in. The ensuing anxiety of not having another spare for 100+ miles of off-roading is not something I want to experience again. Want to know what troll said a Subaru Outback could have done that trail...

I quickly searched and couldn't find the weight of the Compomotives.

The Evo Corse wheels "start at" 13.5 kgs, which is about 30 lbs.

Not sure what "start at" means, considering they are only available in one size.

But still, 9 lbs per wheel difference between those and the Tuffants isn't huge, especially when you consider that even E-rated tires can fluctuate about 3 or 4 pounds, depending on the brand.

Weight of the wheel and tire do add up.

I went from well-worn Cooper Zeons on stock 19" rims to E-load AT3s on Tuffants.

I have not used a scale, but I'm guessing 20lb a corner heaver. This sounds reasonable (per the web, from 38 to 48 lb per tire and from whatever the stock wheel weights to 39 lb for the Tuffant).

As for whether this affects handling on a 6000lb vehicle, who knows. It wasn't a sports car to begin with.

It certainly hasn't affected ride quality; even with the E-rated tires, the ride is smoother.

I found some slightly used 1.25” spacers from Motorsports for the LR4 for a good price so will try those out on the 18”s.

Thoughts on the Falken Wildpeak A/T3W? I’d like to try the 265/70r/18s. If not, the BFGs 265/65r/18s.

Falken Load rating: SL (not E) 2756lbs 116T

The Falkens in the 265/70 size are what I think the Expedition Portal project LR4 ran. You can search there for more details.

Be aware, though, that if your suspension goes ***** and drops to the bumps, you aint going anywhere.

They are what Scott Brady used and he said he was positive on them but there were some fitment issues that he would explain in a later post but I never saw anything on that and now he has moved on from the LR4.

I'm sure I will end up with the BFGs but I liked the tall/skinny aspect of the Falkens and I have a pair of their sport tires on another car which have been very good. i also have some height clearance issues where the LR4 is parked with the RTT and the Falkens are taller than the BFGs, so maybe problematic from that angle too.

Thanks for the feedback.

2012 LR4

LR3 wheels
Spacers 1.0”
BFG 265/65/18
Black gorilla nuts
New TPMS added

Rubbing of frame horns at full lock
Caliper fins needed slight grinding
No luck on getting full size spare loaded (old style LR hitch mounted and didn’t have time to remove - no key)

Will get frame horns shaved and hitch off shortly - and spare fitted properly.

Big upgrade and looking forward to a Utah trip next month.

Ok, new 2012 LR4 owner here, and I've read all 84 pages of this thread. Yep.

Looks like I'm going with the 18" Compos, and 265/65/r18 tires. I'm mainly in Northern California and Nevada, and I've had 2 sets of LT Duratracs on a Wrangler that did well in snow and sand.

Right now, I'm seeing the following LT possibilities in my chosen size:

BFG K02
Cooper AT3
Cooper ST Maxx
Terra Ridge Grappler
Terra Grappler G2

Did I miss one?

I'll probably go with the K02.

Is it recommended to get new lug nuts? I can figure out the center caps and TPMS.

Thanks to everyone for providing such a valuable resource. I really appreciate the time and effort to share the detailed info.

If you have wased through the thread you probably saw the recommendation for the Gorilla Nuts. Someone a lot more experienced than I made that call so I got a set for my new(ish) 18”s and am very pleased with them.

I also went with the KO2s.

Right. I just wasn't sure if the recommendation was that the old lug nuts should be replaced, or if it was a nice to have. I'll probably get them, once I've spent that much on tires/wheels, doesn't make sense to save money on lug nuts.
